{"id":78025,"date":"2015-10-23T14:15:01","date_gmt":"2015-10-23T18:15:01","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=78025"},"modified":"2015-10-23T14:10:37","modified_gmt":"2015-10-23T18:10:37","slug":"three-pro-life-challengers-primary-renee-ellmers-north-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/three-pro-life-challengers-primary-renee-ellmers-north-carolina\/","title":{"rendered":"Three pro-life challengers to primary Renee Ellmers in North Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Following her controversial stance against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act early in 2015, North Carolina Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/opinion\/primary-challengers-to-renee-ellmers-offer-hope-for-pro-lifers\">now finds herself<\/a> facing three Republican primary challengers pledging stronger conservative leadership.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Ellmers <a href=\"\/news\/renee-ellmers-excuses-for-house-abortion-meltdown-still-not-compelling\/\">raised objections<\/a> to a bill banning abortion at five months of pregnancy on the grounds that its rape exception was too burdensome. The move incensed pro-lifers, as the derailed vote on the bill was scheduled to coincide with the annual March for Life, the country&#8217;s largest pro-life demonstration.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Ellmers <a href=\"\/news\/look-renee-ellmerss-new-ideas-make-20-week-abortion-ban-completely-useless\/\">eventually said<\/a> she could support the bill if the exception&#8217;s requirement to report a rape to police was changed to reporting it to the abortionist, which pro-life critics noted would create a wide loophole.<\/p>\n<p>Many pro-life organization denounced Ellmers for her stance, with National Right to Life declaring, &#8220;If you can&#8217;t vote for such a humanitarian no-brainer of a law to protect the unborn, you can&#8217;t be trusted to vote for any pro-life legislation,&#8221; and the North Carolina Values Coalition accusing her of &#8220;betray[ing] the pro-life community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In next month&#8217;s primary election, she will face attorney Kay Daly, economics professor Frank Roche, and businessman Jim Duncan.<\/p>\n<p>Daly, who advertises herself as &#8220;hunting RINOs,&#8221; (Republicans In Name Only), has won the endorsement of several pro-life leaders, including Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson and Family Research Council co-founder Gary Bauer.
