There are many religious people in the pro-life movement, and they take courage and inspiration from their faith. \u00a0Pro-life Christians want their pastors to\u00a0speak out against abortion. But the following clergy members have come out in favor<\/em> of abortion, and some of the things they say are shocking.<\/p>\n

To\u00a0illustrate exactly what they are talking about when they\u00a0speak of abortion, below\u00a0is a picture of an 8-week-old preborn baby, a potential victim of an abortion.<\/p>\n

\"8weekbluebackground\"<\/p>\n

A surgical abortion, done with a high-powered suction machine, will tear a baby like this limb from limb and mangle her\u00a0into bloody pieces. Afterwards, clinic workers have to sort through the remains<\/a> to make sure all the parts of the baby (arms, legs, etc.) have been removed.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that this is what the pro-abortion clergy are supporting in the following quotes:<\/p>\n

1. Pro-abortion Methodist pastor John M. Swomley:<\/p>\n

\n

It is not enough to say that abortion is not violent. Abortion is a positive decision and not a lesser evil. \u2026[Abortion] \u00a0is therefore profamily and pro-life. (1)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Any procedure that rips the arms and legs off of developing human beings is violent. Whether Swomley\u2019s words are spawned by ignorance or deception, there is no way to tell. (You can see pictures of aborted babies\u00a0<\/a>at different stages\u00a0here and decide for yourself whether\u00a0abortion is violent).<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Rev. Christine Gimbol:<\/p>\n

\n

Clearly, giving a woman the right to abortion is a compassionate stand, and anytime compassion rules over judgment, we see the kingdom of God\u2026.(2)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

3.\u00a0Rev. David Selzer of Concerned Clergy for Choice wrote a text for the blessing <\/a>of\u00a0abortion clinics:<\/p>\n

\n

Bless this building and those who work here\u2026 who provide safe, legal, caring and loving reproductive services, including abortion\u2026 they are doing God\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Abortion is definitely not \u201ccaring and loving\u201d for the baby. And I\u2019m not sure how many people would agree that dismembering children is \u201cGod\u2019s work.\u201d<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Rev. Phillip A. Wogamen, then affiliated with Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C.:<\/p>\n

\n

Real love for children means having the number of children that one can care for responsibly and lovingly\u2026. Bringing every conceived child into existence is not \u201cpro-life\u201d: it is certainly not pro-love. (3)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But abortion is not compassionate to the baby, and often not compassionate to the woman either, who often suffers physical<\/a>\u00a0and psychological<\/a> problems from abortion, including increased risks of\u00a0suicide <\/a>and substance abuse.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0Rev. Julia Mayo Quinlan, pastor of Parkway United Methodist Church in Pompano Beach, said the following <\/a>at a \u00a0service commemorating the 23rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade sponsored by the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice:<\/p>\n

\n

Pro-choice is about choosing life. And it is moral.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And black is white and night is day and heaven\u00a0is hell.<\/p>\n

6. Pro-choice Rev. Bernice Powell Jackson, from the speech <\/a>\u201cSeeing the World Through Women\u2019s Eyes,\u201d delivered on September 18, 1995, to the annual meeting of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice:<\/p>\n

\n

We say no to violence \u2013 all violence \u2013 clinic violence, domestic violence, drive-by violence\u2026. We say a woman\u2019s right to make all the choices about her own life and those of her family is a fundamental human right that most Americans believe in.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

No to violence, except for the violent and brutal dismembering of a pre-born babies.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0Rev. Karen Vannoy, then pastor of Travis Park United Methodist Church, on her support of abortion<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

I am willing to take whatever heat would be generated by my support of what I think is right and in God\u2019s will.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Vannoy, another clergy member\u00a0who believes abortion is \u201cGod\u2019s will\u201d was a member of the local Planned Parenthood board.<\/p>\n

In response, if a pro-life atheist like me can be forgiven for uncharacteristically citing a Bible verse, I can\u2019t help but be reminded of Isaiah 5:20 (New King James Version):<\/p>\n

\n

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
\nWho put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
\nWho put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It is sad when those who have so much influence on so many people embrace abortion, the killing of preborn children.<\/p>\n
