{"id":77061,"date":"2015-10-15T12:17:46","date_gmt":"2015-10-15T16:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=77061"},"modified":"2015-10-20T16:28:31","modified_gmt":"2015-10-20T20:28:31","slug":"planned-parenthood-seeks-to-increase-taxpayer-funding-on-abortion-with-no-limits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-seeks-to-increase-taxpayer-funding-on-abortion-with-no-limits\/","title":{"rendered":"Planned Parenthood seeks to increase taxpayer funding of abortion with no limits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In her testimony before Congress, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards repeatedly claimed that federal funds are not going toward abortion, which is prohibited\u00a0under federal law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But while Planned Parenthood gives lip service to the law and vows to the American public that taxpayers are not funding its\u00a0egregious and illegal practices, it is fighting for tax dollars without restriction through the\u00a0repeal of a federal law banning the taxpayer funding of abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Planned Parenthood and its allies are\u00a0intensifying efforts\u00a0to repeal provisions under the Hyde Amendment, the federal law\u00a0prohibiting public funding for abortion. In a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.signforgood.com\/eachwoman\/?code=NARAL?source=kicker\"><span class=\"s2\">petition<\/span><\/a>\u00a0by NARAL, a coalition of abortion advocates, including Planned Parenthood, are asking Congress to repeal Hyde.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Hyde Amendment, originally passed in 1976 (and renewed multiple times since), prevents federal taxpayer dollars from funding abortions through Medicaid. The Medicaid program operates using both federal and state funds, and the state receives a 90 percent reimbursement on Medicaid family planning spending from the federal government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Because of the fungibility of money, federal dollars do end up\u00a0paying for abortions,\u00a0as a number of states <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/public-funding-abortion\"><span class=\"s2\">publicly fund\u00a0<\/span><\/a>abortion to some degree, despite Hyde Amendment prohibitions. California, through Medi-Cal, is the greatest purchaser\u00a0of abortion, using public money to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68636 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Planned Parenthood is also the largest recipient of funding under Title X, a Nixon-era family planning program that serves low- to middle-income Americans. While Title X does not recognize abortion as a method of family planning (no funds are allowed to even pay for \u201cprograms where abortion is a method of family planning&#8221;), Planned Parenthood encourages abortion as a means of &#8220;planning&#8221; for a family, and consequentially, tax dollars are supporting the group&#8217;s mission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Despite the fact that taxpayers indirectly foot the bill for abortion &#8211; something that is deeply unpopular with the public &#8211; Planned Parenthood wants to expand taxpayer funding with no restrictions. However, one of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s main talking points in light of the &#8220;baby parts&#8221; scandal is that federal dollars\u00a0are not subsidizing the destruction of human life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Herein lies the juxtaposition: the abortion business uses Hyde to polish its tainted reputation, separating from the minds of the American taxpayer that their money funds\u00a0its legacy of lawbreaking, but in reality, Planned Parenthood\u00a0is\u00a0doing everything it can to garner ever more public money for abortions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The facts speak for themselves: Planned Parenthood and its allies not only wish to protect their\u00a0bottom line, but\u00a0to expand it \u2014 forcing Americans\u00a0to bankroll its destructive\u00a0practices. Even in the aftermath of its baby parts scandal, Planned Parenthood wants the American public to subsidize the killing of innocent children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Funneling taxpayer funds towards an organization whose very business is built upon the\u00a0destruction of human life means that taxpayers are subsidizing abortion, no matter how Planned Parenthood tries to
