Abortion was largely ignored in CNN\u2019s first Democratic primary debate<\/a> Tuesday night, featuring former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, former Virginia Senator Jim Webb, former Maryland Governor Martin O\u2019Malley, and former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee. However, the issue was referenced twice.<\/p>\n

First, moderator Anderson Cooper pressed Chafee on his former identification as a Republican, to which Chafee responded, \u201cI have not changed on the issues. I was a liberal Republican, then I was an independent, and now I\u2019m a proud Democrat.\u201d<\/p>\n

He cited his record in favor of \u201ca woman\u2019s right to choose\u201d (Chafee has won numerous 100% ratings<\/a> from Planned Parenthood and NARAL over the years) as among the reasons voters should consider him \u201ca block of granite when it comes to the issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later on, Clinton accused<\/a> Republicans of being hypocritical in being pro-life, yet favoring reduced government intervention in other issues. \u201cThey don\u2019t mind having big government to interfere with a woman\u2019s right to choose and to take down Planned Parenthood,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Clinton\u2019s record<\/a> is 100% pro-abortion, including opposition to banning partial-birth abortion and recognizing preborn babies as second victims in violent crimes against their mothers.<\/p>\n

The former First Lady and senator also emphasized her status as \u201cthe grandmother of a wonderful one-year-old child,\u201d and framed her campaign as a mission to help \u201call of our children\u201d \u201clive up to his or her God-given potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Live Action News has previously<\/a> covered<\/a> the inconsistency of the Clintons commenting on the \u201cwantedness\u201d of Chelsea Clinton\u2019s baby, \u00a0while supporting the abortion of babies whose mothers do not want them.<\/p>\n
