The 88-page platform document was released Monday. Under a heading titled \u201chelp for the world\u2019s poor\u201d the Liberals promise to \u201ccover the full range of reproductive health services\u201d \u2014 which necessarily includes abortion \u2014 as part of Canada\u2019s foreign aid policy to developing countries.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cClosing existing gaps in reproductive rights and health care can and will save lives,\u201d the policy document states.<\/em><\/p>\n

The announcement comes on the heels of [Liberal leader Justin] Trudeau attacking Prime Minister Harper at a\u00a0leaders debate last week<\/a>\u00a0for allowing women to die from \u201cunsafe abortion\u201d due to the Conservative\u2019s decision to defund abortion in 2010 as part of its Muskoka Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment overseas.<\/em><\/p>\n

During the September 28 debate, Trudeau touted abortion as a mechanism for removing families from poverty, criticizing Harper for \u201cnot doing everything we should be doing to help mothers and the most vulnerable throughout the world to remove people from poverty.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
