Diane Derzis, owner of the only\u00a0abortion clinic in Mississippi, was on \u201cThe Alan Colmes Show\u201d <\/a>defending abortion and complaining about laws requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges. She says many interesting things in the video, some of which I\u2019ll address in future articles.<\/p>\n

As you can see in this\u00a0video<\/a>\u00a0of Colmes’ radio show, he\u00a0is a very sympathetic interviewer. He lobs Derzis\u00a0softball question after softball question, setting her up to spout the typical pro-abortion rhetoric. For example, Colmes makes sure to maneuver Derzis into saying that regulations requiring clinics to meet basic health standards and hire abortionists with admitting privileges have nothing to do with women\u2019s health\u00a0\u2013 it\u2019s just those nasty, evil anti-choicers trying to take women\u2019s rights away. And, of course, he makes sure to bring up the horrors of self-induced and illegal back alley abortions that were allegedly rampant before Roe v. Wade (even though much of that has been debunked<\/a>\u00a0and, in fact, the former medical director of Planned Parenthood wrote in 1960 t<\/a>hat the 90% of all illegal abortions were performed by \u201clicensed physicians\u2026 in good standing\u201d and that \u201cabortion, whether therapeutic or illegal, is in the main no longer dangerous”).<\/p>\n

Yet despite the fact that Colmes handles Derzis with kid gloves, there\u00a0is one major surprise in the interview.\u00a0Things get strange when the subject turns to Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Colmes: Are there Planned Parenthood facilities where you are? Do they exist in Mississippi? What is their relationship to clinics like yours?\u201d<\/p>\n

Derzis: The Planned Parenthood in Mississippi does not do abortions. They do \u2013 we actually do not have a relationship.\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This prompts Colmes to launch into the typical defense of Planned Parenthood that we\u2019ve all heard so many times:<\/p>\n

Colmes: I see. So most of what Planned Parenthood does is not abortion, with Republicans, this is a cause c\u00e9l\u00e8bre, they want to defund it, when in fact, the Planned Parenthood in\u00a0Mississippi doesn\u2019t go anywhere near what you do.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Then Derzis says is something that shocks Colmes\u00a0and probably all of the program\u2019s pro-choice listeners as well.<\/p>\n

Derzis: I agree that Planned Parenthood should be defunded. Absolutely. They actually do more abortions than anyone in the country, even though they talk about doing only 3%, that\u2019s not quite accurate \u2013 they do more than anyone in the country. And they are the Wal-Mart of abortion. I\u2019m not a Planned Parenthood defender here.<\/p>\n

Colmes: I guess I\u2019m surprised to hear that.<\/p>\n

Derzis: I know it, because everyone else goes along with the, what we\u2019re supposed to say, and the PC thing, and I\u2019m just-<\/p>\n

Colmes: All right.<\/p>\n

Derzis: Not like that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So here we have an admission that Planned Parenthood is mostly about abortion \u2013 something that pro-lifers have been saying all along. We already know statistically that they do the majority of abortions \u00a0<\/a>in the US\u00a0(around 40%<\/a>), now we have it straight from the mouth of another abortion provider.\u00a0 Planned Parenthood, according to Derzis, is all about abortion.<\/p>\n

Derzis is not the only abortion provider to compare abortion to Walmart.<\/p>\n

In her 2007 book Safe, Legal and Unavailable? Abortion Politics in the United States<\/em> Pro-choice author Melody Rose writes:\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

For example, Peter Bours, a physician in Oregon, reports that new Planned Parenthood franchises in his area are making one of his offices financially untenable; whereas he has once provided 100 or more abortions per month in his Portland office, he now performs around 20. Referring to Planned Parenthood as \u201cthe Wal-Mart of abortion clinics,\u201d Bours contends that the larger providers offer inferior services, and that as a result women are being poorly served by the expansion of the organization in abortion provision.<\/p>\n

Although very competitive in terms of price, Bours maintains that their level of care is lower, and that patients often see clinicians with less training than physicians at smaller facilities might have.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

One gets an idea of mass-produced products; substandard abortion procedures and clinics which process woman after woman, giving them abortions and sending them on the way.<\/p>\n

Faltering, Colmes tries to get the interview back on familiar ground, attempting again to defend Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

\n

Colmes: But as I understand it, because of the Hyde Amendment, they can\u2019t, federal dollars don\u2019t go to Planned Parenthood for abortions.<\/p>\n

Derzis: Well it\u2019s\u2026 That is exactly what they say, but it, I will tell you now, that Planned Parenthood has done remarkably well through this fiasco, even though they drug the rest of us through the mud \u2026 They had done remarkably well.<\/p>\n

Colmes: But what I don\u2019t understand is, in many communities, Planned Parenthood is the only place women have to go, why would you want money taken away from them since many women \u2013<\/p>\n

Derzis: Alan, they make tons of money. That\u2019s what I\u2019m telling you here. They make so much money \u2013 check out what the CEO makes a year, and I\u2019ll tell you that it\u2019s right under $500,000. [In fact, CEO Cecile Richards makes over $500,000. Her income in 2012 was\u00a0$523,616<\/a>.]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In just a few minutes, Derzis has blown a hole through all of the propaganda surrounding Planned Parenthood. Her candor shows that:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Planned Parenthood is<\/em> all about abortion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    2. The 3% statistic is<\/em> misleading, and<\/p>\n

    3. Planned Parenthood doesn\u2019t<\/em> need public funding.<\/p>\n

    Prolifers knew this all along, of course. But it\u2019s nice to see the facts verified by\u00a0an unexpected source.<\/p>\n

    And, just in case there\u00a0are\u00a0any doubts about Derzis’ pro-abortion\u00a0credentials (doubts which would seem impossible to have after seeing the video) she says:<\/p>\n
