To note that women depend on the abortion giant for mammograms is inaccurate, since there are over 8,000\u00a0licensed mammogram facilities in the U.S. and thousands of comprehensive health clinics\u00a0that provide mammogram referrals.\u00a0Even the Washington Post<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/fact-checker\/wp\/2015\/10\/02\/the-repeated-misleading-claim-that-planned-parenthood-provides-mammograms\/\">\u00a0fact-checked<\/a> the group&#8217;s repeated mammogram claim and found it &#8220;misleading.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The myth that Planned Parenthood actually offers mammogram X-rays to patients has been long debunked, and needs to stop being repeated. Planned Parenthood does not administer mammograms, but it keeps being perpetuated by the group\u2019s supporters, including celebrities whose claims have a wide reach.<\/p>\n<p>When Democratic lawmakers or other supporters assert that\u00a0Planned Parenthood \u201cprovides\u201d mammograms, this is highly\u00a0misleading\u00a0language because it could be interpreted to mean that the group directly administers the X-rays. The group does not \u201cprovide\u201d mammograms. Rather, the situation is similar to other clinics where patients are referred to a licensed facility that can provide biopsies, X-rays or other specialized services. It is slightly more accurate to say\u00a0that women have \u201caccess\u201d to mammograms via Planned Parenthood, though it\u2019s still slippery language&#8230;In fact, supporters should drop this talking point, given that less than 3\u00a0percent\u00a0of Planned Parenthood breast exams result in a referral for a\u00a0mammogram and other specialized services.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In October of 2012, President Obama insisted that millions of women rely on Planned Parenthood for &#8220;not just contraception, but mammograms.&#8221; The Washington Post, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/fact-checker\/post\/obamas-tonight-show-remark-planned-parenthood-provides-mammograms\/2012\/10\/26\/c07f331e-1f16-11e2-9cd5-b55c38388962_blog.html\">noting Mr. Obama&#8217;s statements<\/a>, gave him Three Pinocchios for this misleading claim.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68636 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Abortion advocates such as\u00a0Miss Tennessee, who participated in this year&#8217;s Miss America pageant, perpetuate the myth by arguing that Planned Parenthood should continue receiving taxpayer funding because money goes toward women&#8217;s health care, such as screening for cancer\u00a0and &#8220;mammograms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Even\u00a0Whoopi Goldberg parroted the claim during\u00a0The View when Rick Santorum\u00a0noted\u00a0that Planned Parenthood does not provide the service.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood has not only perpetuated this false narrative, it has deceived\u00a0the American public about the scope of its services.
