However, today, the New York Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/10\/02\/world\/asia\/troy-newman-head-of-anti-abortion-group-is-held-in-australia-over-canceled-visa.html?mwrsm=Facebook&amp;_r=0\">reports<\/a> that Newman has been detained in Australia and may be deported within the next few days:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The group\u2019s president, Troy Newman, was scheduled to give a series of talks sponsored by an Australian anti-abortion group. But some politicians in the country had criticized his impending visit, saying he could instigate harassment or even violence against women and medical professionals. Mr. Newman\u2019s visa was canceled this week by Australia\u2019s Immigration Ministry, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation\u00a0<a title=\"Australian Broadcasting Corporation report.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2015-09-30\/anti-abortion-activist-blocked-from-entering-australia\/6816806\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"399\" data-total-count=\"1488\">A Labor member of the Australian Parliament, Terri Butler,\u00a0<a title=\"The letter.\" href=\"https:\/\/d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net\/butlerforgriffith\/pages\/261\/attachments\/original\/1443493971\/Minister_for_Immigration_and_Border_Protection-Pol_Immigration___citizenship-2015-09-28.pdf?1443493971\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0this week to Peter Dutton, the minister for Immigration and Border Protection, saying she was concerned that Mr. Newman could inspire \u201cthe harassment and intimidation of women accessing reproductive services and professionals offering those services at medical clinics\u201d or even \u201cthreats or the commission of acts of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"story-continues-3\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"175\" data-total-count=\"1663\">She cited passages from \u201cTheir Blood Cries Out,\u201d a 2000 book Mr. Newman helped write, which says medical professionals who provide abortions should be executed for murder.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"175\" data-total-count=\"1663\">Operation Rescue released a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/newman-detained-in-australia-pending-deportation-due-to-pro-abortion-campaign-of-falsehoods\/\">statement<\/a>, responding that &#8220;Newman has never advocated violence against abortion providers or facilities and has instead adamantly encouraged pro-life activists to work through the legal, legislative, and justice systems to bring abortionists who are breaking the law and harming women to justice&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cThe pro-abortion bullies in Australia who have been slandering Troy Newman to the government have had to stoop to the lowest of lows to silence his message about Planned Parenthood\u2019s criminality and his use of peaceful, law-abiding activism to expose abortion abuses,\u201d said [Cheryl] Sullenger. \u201cNow that they have told so may lies about him, they must make sure he is deported lest their shame be exposed to the people of Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Newman was not notified that his visa had been cancelled until he was already enroute to Melbourne. Along the way, he was banned from boarding a United Airlines flight from Denver to Los Angeles and was told he was banned from flying on order of the Australian government. Newman continued on to Los Angeles on another airline then on to Melbourne thinking this misunderstanding would soon be corrected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cTroy has been treated like a criminal even though he has never been convicted of a crime and is being detained and deported based solely on his religious and pro-life beliefs that are opposed by certain abortion lackeys in the Australian government,\u201d said Sullenger. \u201cThis is unjust and as a representative of Operation Rescue, I demand his immediate release and an apology from Minister Dutton for the trouble he has caused by acquiescing to false accusations of those who oppose Newman\u2019s pro-life stance.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inquisitr.com\/2462535\/anti-abortion-activist-troy-newman-gets-24-hour-deportation-delay\/#00G031O7ipp3HqXs.99\">the Inquisitr<\/a>, Newman&#8217;s attorneys have stated that &#8220;their client\u2019s visa was revoked simply because the Australian government disagrees with his stance, not because he poses a threat to security in the nation.
