Baby Haiden is a fighter.\u00a0 He survived<\/a> after being born four months\u00a0early on a cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

Haiden’s mother, Emily Morgan, told the Associated Press her son was due in December, but contractions began\u00a0on August 31st,\u00a0during a Caribbean cruise.<\/p>\n

The pregnancy was progressing as normal, until\u00a0contractions began.<\/p>\n

“I had felt him kicking,” Morgan said. “I felt the process of him getting bigger.”<\/p>\n

Morgan\u00a0was shocked when\u00a0contractions started\u00a0during the halfway point of her\u00a0pregnancy. At first, she thought it was\u00a0a false alarm, but she called for medical staff. Morgan was told by\u00a0a doctor aboard the cruise ship that they were still 14 hours from the nearest port in Puerto Rico, and she could\u00a0not\u00a0give birth yet\u2014 but baby Haiden was coming.<\/p>\n

After delivery,\u00a0doctors initially told Morgan she had miscarried, but\u00a045\u00a0minutes later, medical staff\u00a0told her\u00a0baby Haiden\u00a0had survived, but he wouldn’t live long\u00a0.<\/p>\n

They brought Morgan to see\u00a0her newborn son, who was crying through a tiny oxygen mask on his face.<\/div>\n

As time passed\u2014 with baby Haiden\u00a0fighting for his fragile life\u2014 medical staff created a makeshift incubator, and wrapped him\u00a0in dry towels and microwaved saline packets.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival in Puerto Rico, the family was rushed to a hospital, and a few days later, they transferred to a children’s hospital in Miami.<\/p>\n

Now, Haiden is making great progress. Morgan says the plan is for Haiden to remain under hospital care until his due date, December 19.<\/p>\n

A baby like Haiden, born four months premature – and so far from a hospital –\u00a0has less than a 10\u00a0percent\u00a0chance of surviving, according to Dr. Bradley Yoder, medical director of the newborn intensive care unit at the University of Utah.<\/p>\n

“On a daily basis, they tell us he’s a miracle baby and that he wants to be here,” Morgan said.<\/p>\n

Due to extensive medical bills, the Morgan family has created a\u00a0fundraiser on GoFundMe.\u00a0On the fundraiser page, Morgan\u00a0writes:<\/p>\n
