A group of pro-life activists blocked the site of a new Planned Parenthood center in Washington, D.C., this morning.<\/p>\n

Abortion Free DC, led by a\u00a0group of about a dozen pro-life activists including the Rev. Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition, Mark Harrington of Created Equal, and full time pro-life activist Lauren Handy, arrived early this morning to the Planned Parenthood site at 1225 Fourth St. NE, which was purchased in August 2013 by Planned Parenthood of Metro DC for $6.15 million. This new Planned Parenthood is intended to\u00a0replace\u00a0one that recently closed.<\/p>\n

Pizzano Contractors<\/a>, a company operated by a Catholic businessman, was hired for construction of the abortion center.<\/p>\n

After arriving on scene today, Rev. Mahoney updated his supporters, writing on Facebook<\/a>, “Already a major victory! Before our sit-in at Planned Parenthood in DC, they have stopped all work using heavy equipment! Thank God!”<\/p>\n

A message on the\u00a0group’s\u00a0events page<\/a> reads:<\/p>\n

\n

A generation ago, civil rights activists gathered as a bold and public witness to stand against the injustice of racism and segregation. They risked arrest at lunch counters, on buses and in the public square for peacefully embracing the eternal principles of justice for all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, this generation, faces a similar challenge on the issue of abortion. How we can passively sit by while our brothers and sisters are being brutalized and women being diminished through the tragic act of violence?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Planned Parenthood has been under heavy scrutiny since mid-July, when\u00a0undercover videos from The Center for Medical Progress revealed\u00a0how the abortion giant\u00a0engages in\u00a0the\u00a0harvesting and sales of body parts of the children they\u00a0abort. Congress is currently considering whether\u00a0to defund Planned Parenthood,\u00a0which gets over $500 million tax dollars annually.<\/p>\n

Abortion Free DC is also calling on Pope Francis to address the issue of abortion and Planned Parenthood when he speaks to a joint session of Congress on September 23.<\/p>\n
