In\u00a0an article from\u00a0New York Magazine (August),\u00a0published online<\/a> today, Rebecca Traister (pictured) claims that the undercover videos released by The Center for Medical Progress will not affect public opinion, because “women already know what abortion is.”<\/p>\n

Traister describes the “trays of aborted fetuses… severed arms and intestines… little lungs and thymus glands… crushed organs and tiny bones” visible in the videos, then immediately downplays the\u00a0grisly details…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

… the notion that educating women in the grotesqueries of termination will be a game-changer is absurd… We know more about blood, innards, fetuses, and the babies they may become \u2014 in short, about life in reproductive bodies \u2014 than anti-abortion activists seem to understand.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Later in the article Traister makes a startling confession:<\/p>\n

Women know about blood. We know about discharge. We know about babies, and many of us also love them, their little feet and hands and eyelashes. And, yes, we know that those bitty features develop while the fetus is inside us.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Traister\u00a0further implies that no matter how barbaric abortions actually are, people don’t care:<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood didn\u2019t invent abortions, and David Daleiden isn\u2019t going to explain them in terms so grisly as to reverse thousands of years\u2019 of women\u2019s needs, desires, and lived experiences.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In short,\u00a0Rebecca Traister is\u00a0fully aware of the humanity of the fetus, fully aware of the trays of severed arms and intestines and other clearly human body parts that result from abortion – she just doesn’t care. The article concludes with a chilling quote\u00a0from pro-abortion activist\u00a0Frances Kissling:<\/p>\n

‘Abortions are yucky,’ said Kissling. ‘But after that response, there is a shrugging of the shoulders.’ After all, a lot of life is yucky.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite these claims, many women say that had they been informed\u00a0about their child’s fetal development<\/a> (those “little feet and hands and eyelashes”) or seen sonograms<\/a> of their preborn children, they would have made choices\u00a0for life instead of abortion.<\/p>\n
