{"id":73022,"date":"2015-09-03T11:16:31","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T15:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=73022"},"modified":"2015-09-03T11:16:31","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T15:16:31","slug":"las-vegas-teen-thomas-win-fight-start-school-pro-life-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/las-vegas-teen-thomas-win-fight-start-school-pro-life-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Las Vegas teen &#038; Thomas More win fight to start school pro-life club"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>The Thomas More Society is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasmoresociety.org\/vegas-school-district-officially-approves-students-pro-life-club\/\">announcing victory<\/a> in their legal battle for Las Vegas high-school student Angelique Clark&#8217;s right to start a pro-life club.<\/p>\n<p>As Live Action News <a href=\"\/news\/las-vegas-high-school-sued-for-violating-pro-life-students-first-amendment-rights\/\">reported<\/a> last month, administrators at West Career and Technical Academy denied Clark&#8217;s request to start a club for pro-life students, telling her the issue was too controversial, that it would make pro-choice students feel left out, and that as a high-school sophomore she was insufficiently qualified to speak out on the issue.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Upon being contacted about the dispute, Students for Life of America helped connect Clark with Thomas More. Attorneys from both groups sent a letter notifying WCTA they were violating not only Clark&#8217;s free speech rights, but the federal Equal Access Act. When the school declined to respond, they filed a lawsuit against WCTA and the Clark County School District.<\/p>\n<p>On September 2, Thomas More confirmed\u00a0that the school district has officially approved the pro-life club, with a final settlement and dismissal of the lawsuit expected to be reached without difficulty. &#8220;[W]e\u2019re grateful for their efforts to protect the speech rights of not just Angelique and her club, but of all future clubs in the Clark County School District,&#8221; associate counsel\u00a0Jocelyn Floyd said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am so excited that I will finally be able to start a pro-life club at my high school,\u201d Clark\u00a0(now a junior) said. \u201cI look forward to running the WCTA pro-life club with all the other students who have already signed up to be a voice for the voiceless and ignored\u2014the preborn and the mothers who think abortion is their only choice.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Thomas More Society is announcing victory in their legal battle for Las Vegas high-school student Angelique Clark&#8217;s right to start a pro-life club.
