(The Daily Signal<\/a>) Planned Parenthood announced it will sue Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal for terminating its Medicaid contract with the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlanned Parenthood is flailing,\u201d said Mike Reed, Jindal\u2019s communications director, in a statement to The Daily Signal. \u201cThis lawsuit is without merit and the state will aggressively defend our right to cancel the contract.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawsuit is the latest in\u00a0a series of efforts<\/a> Planned Parenthood has made to exonerate itself following allegations that it is engaged in the sale of fetal body parts.<\/p>\n

Jindal, a Republican, ended Planned Parenthood\u2019s contract with Louisiana following the release of several undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress depicting Planned Parenthood officials\u2019 discussing the sale of fetal body parts at the organization\u2019s affiliates.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Slattery, a legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, said that \u201ceven though the Obama administration is attempting to pressure states not to cut Planned Parenthood\u2019s Medicaid funding, states are within their rights to do so if Planned Parenthood has violated the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIn light of videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, there are serious questions about whether Planned Parenthood has violated a number of federal laws,\u201d said Slattery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the same Planned Parenthood affiliate that was forced to pay the state of Texas $1.4 million in a settlement for allegations of Medicaid fraud,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Reed said\u00a0Jindal\u00a0has the right to terminate the state\u2019s\u00a0contract with Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Medicaid provider contract between the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Planned Parenthood gives either party the right to cancel the contract at will with a 30-day notice. Governor Jindal and [the Department of Health and Hospitals]\u00a0chose to exercise that right to cancel,\u201d Reed said in the statement.<\/p>\n

According to the Washington Post<\/a>, Planned Parenthood has requested that a federal judge prevent the governor\u2019s order from going into effect.<\/p>\n

\u201cI canceled Planned Parenthood\u2019s contracts to make sure they weren\u2019t getting taxpayer dollars from the state of Louisiana,\u201d Jindal said in\u00a0a video about the lawsuit posted on his Twitter account.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to back down,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Spokesmen for Planned Parenthood have called the videos \u201cheavily edited,\u201d and have denied that the organization makes a profit from its tissue donation program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis political grandstanding could have real and devastating consequences for the women, men and young people who rely on us,\u201d Cecile Richards, chief executive of Planned Parenthood, said in\u00a0a statement<\/a> provided to The Hill. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why we\u2019re going to fight this with everything we\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Signal\u00a0previously reported<\/a> that when demonstrators gathered outside the governor\u2019s mansion to protest his decision to defund Planned Parenthood, his staff played the Center for Medical Progress videos for them.<\/p>\n

The sale of fetal human body parts is a felony in the United States.<\/p>\n
