New allegations\u00a0about\u00a0substandard\u00a0abortion\u00a0facilities have just come to light. An individual claims to have \u201cseen really rampant, rampant problems with bacteria in certain clinics.\u201d That includes the presence of staphylococcus–a bacteria which can lead to life threatening infections.<\/p>\n

So who\u2019s making these accusations? Is it some fanatical, right-wing ideologue? Nope. It\u2019s Planned Parenthood\u2019s former business partner. And the evidence suggests that she knows what she\u2019s talking about.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In July, the Center for Medical Progress<\/span><\/u><\/a> (CMP) began releasing a series of videos. Shot with hidden cameras, the footage documents meetings<\/span><\/u><\/a>\u00a0between Planned Parenthood executives and people claiming to be fetal tissue buyers. Over the course of these meetings, officials admit to multiple felonies, including the sale of human organs<\/span><\/u><\/a>, illegally altering<\/span><\/u><\/a>\u00a0 how abortions are done, and performing partial-birth abortions<\/span><\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also recorded were meetings with Cate Dyer, CEO of StemExpress. StemExpress is a company that supplies human remains to researchers, and had (until recently<\/span><\/u><\/a>) a close relationship with Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

Release of the videos featuring Dyer was blocked by a court order, an order that\u2019s now\u00a0been lifted<\/span><\/u><\/a>. In response, CMP has put some transcripts up on its website before the footage is shown in full. While much of the exchange revolves around selling heads, hearts, and livers, clinic safety\u00a0also comes up:<\/p>\n

SE:<\/b> We\u2019ll do testing on our side, so we\u2019ll be able to see, you know. And sometimes we\u2019ll find that it can be clinic-specific. I\u2019ve seen really rampant, rampant problems with bacteria in certain clinics. [laughter] Some where you\u2019re kind of in question of should they really, you know, [laughing]<\/p>\n

Buyer:<\/b> Right.<\/p>\n

SE:<\/b> I\u2019ve seen staph come out of clinics.<\/p>\n

Buyer:<\/b> Wow.<\/p>\n

SE:<\/b> So, I mean, I\u2019ve seen all sorts of things come out of clinics, so.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dyer is hardly the first to\u00a0reveal how the abortion industry treats its\u00a0customers. In 2013, two nurses with Planned Parenthood of Delaware came forward<\/span><\/u><\/a> about what they saw on the job.<\/p>\n

Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and Joyce Vasikonis said the Planned Parenthood center they worked at was run like a \u201cmeat market\u201d where women were exposed to bloody tables and unsterilized instruments. They\u00a0later spoke of\u00a0those facts\u00a0before a state legislative hearing,\u00a0\u00a0as did<\/span><\/u><\/a> ex-clinic director Melody Meanor. Meanor pointed to multiple instances of drugs being mishandled, records not being updated, and patients not being told of positive STD tests.<\/p>\n

Similar conditions were discovered in neighboring Maryland. That\u2019s where Dr. Steven C. Brigham had been performing abortions without a medical license and storing dead bodies in a freezer. None of that came to light until 2010 when a woman suffered serious injuries<\/a> during a botched abortion.<\/p>\n

And of course, there was Kermit Gosnell\u2019s clinic in Pennsylvania. In addition to killing multiple newborns and one patient, Gosnell was found to have subjected countless women to filthy, septic conditions.<\/p>\n

What do all these states have in common?\u00a0None of them conducted regular abortion clinic\u00a0inspections when the events in question occurred. The Gosnell\u00a0\u00a0grand jury report<\/span><\/u><\/a> pointed out that\u00a0nail salons were receiving more state oversight than abortion clinics got.<\/p>\n

In response, pro-lifers have tried to protect women\u00a0with common sense\u00a0measures like\u00a0surprise inspections<\/span><\/u><\/a>. Unfortunately, the abortion lobby is standing in the way, with groups like NARAL Pro-Choice America smearing\u00a0these laws\u00a0with the acronym \u00a0\u201cTRAP<\/a>\u201d (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers).<\/p>\n

The abortion lobby should really listen to what Cate Dyer had to say about clinic safety. Because as much as they want to paint\u00a0 inspection laws as some kind of threat to abortionists, right now it\u2019s their patients who are the ones at risk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
