{"id":68043,"date":"2015-07-27T10:25:50","date_gmt":"2015-07-27T14:25:50","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=68043"},"modified":"2015-07-27T10:25:50","modified_gmt":"2015-07-27T14:25:50","slug":"adf-urges-scotus-hear-oklahoma-christian-schools-case-hhs-mandate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/adf-urges-scotus-hear-oklahoma-christian-schools-case-hhs-mandate\/","title":{"rendered":"ADF urges SCOTUS to hear Oklahoma Christian schools&#8217; case against HHS mandate"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>The pro-life and religious liberty law center Alliance Defending Freedom has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/News\/PRDetail\/8741\">announced<\/a> they are filing a petition urging the Supreme Court to hear four Oklahoma Christian universities\u2019 case against the Obama Health and Human Services Department\u2019s contraception insurance mandate.<\/p>\n<p>Mid-America Christian University, Oklahoma Baptist University, Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and Southern Nazarene University contend that being forced to help acquire abortifacient drugs is a violation of their religious liberty under the First Amendment to the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The 10<sup>th<\/sup> Circuit most recently ruled in favor of the mandate on July 14. In response, ADF argues that what HHS calls an \u201caccommodation\u201d relieving religious objections by passing the burden onto third-party administrators \u201cdirectly involves the Christian universities in providing abortifacients in multiple ways,\u201d including but not limited to \u201caltering their health plans to allow for the provision of such drugs or devices\u201d and \u201cofficially authorizing their TPA as a plan and claims administrator solely for the purpose of providing the items.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll Americans should oppose unjust laws that force people \u2013 under threat of punishment \u2013 to give up their fundamental freedoms in order to provide health plans the government prefers,\u201d argues Gregory Baylor, ADF senior counsel. \u201cIt\u2019s no different for these Christian colleges, which simply want to abide by the very faith they espouse and teach.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The pro-life and religious liberty law center Alliance Defending Freedom has announced they are filing a petition urging the Supreme Court to hear four Oklahoma Christian universities\u2019 case against the Obama Health and Human Services Department\u2019s contraception insurance mandate.
