On Wednesday, they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2015\/07\/rush-limbaugh-the-typical-low-information-woman-wants-to-sell-her-aborted-fetus-for-profit\/\">seized upon<\/a> a snippet of Rush Limbaugh\u2019s radio show in which he allegedly claimed the \u201c\u2018typical low information woman\u2019 wants to sell her aborted fetus for profit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What a misogynistic generalization about women in crisis! What else should we expect after the <a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/jeffrey-meyer\/2012\/03\/05\/sandra-fluke-tells-audience-view-go-media-matters-truth\">horrible things he said<\/a> about Sandra Fluke?<\/p>\n<p>Except&#8230; that&#8217;s not what he said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For proof, we need not even review the tape, because David Edwards\u2019 own write-up contains the context his headline leaves out:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cNow that these mothers are finding out that their gestational tissue has been sold to the highest bidder, watch for the lawsuits for them wanting to demand their share of the profits from what they thought was being donated,\u201d Gabe told Limbaugh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">According to Limbaugh, part of Planned Parenthood\u2019s strategy was to lure in \u201clow information people,\u201d and then profit off of their abortions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cEverybody wants to matter, everybody wants to think they are contributing to the advancement of the human race, even when they are having an abortion,\u201d he laughed. \u201cSo Planned Parenthood can convince them that they are furthering humanity by doing this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Limbaugh agreed that Gabe was \u201cprobably right\u201d about women wanting to profit from their abortions.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cThe typical low information woman who thinks that she is serving humanity, then finds out that she\u2019s being screwed and wants her take \u2014 especially after what the abortion cost her \u2014 she\u2019s going to want her take of what they\u2019re selling,\u201d he opined. \u201c[She\u2019s] going to want her Lamborghini too right along with Ma Richards daughter, who wants here Lamborghini. It\u2019s a good point, Gabe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He did not suggest \u201cthe typical low information woman\u201d would try to cash in, but \u201cthe typical low information woman WHO THINKS THAT SHE IS SERVING HUMANITY, THEN FINDS OUT THAT SHE\u2019S BEING SCREWED AND WANTS HER TAKE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Limbaugh\u2019s not generalizing about women, uninformed or otherwise. He\u2019s not even painting all post-abortive women, i.e. those who sought abortions out of desperation. He\u2019s referring to low-information abortion seekers who embrace the abortion-as-positive-good propaganda. And in point of fact, he\u2019s not even talking about cash for greed\u2019s sake, but for getting money they believe Planned Parenthood scammed them out of.<\/p>\n<p>Is it wise to focus criticism on abortion seekers rather than abortion peddlers, even a subset? Not necessarily. Is it the most important part of the story? <a href=\"\/news\/did-planned-parenthood-commit-criminal-conspiracy-an-in-depth-look\/\">Not<\/a> <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-harming-women-difference-less-crunchy-abortion-another-one-may-pain-longer-time\/\">by a<\/a> <a href=\"\/news\/many-crimes-planned-parenthood-committed-one-way-find\/\">long<\/a> <a href=\"\/news\/investigative-video-shows-planned-parenthood-problem-consent\/\">shot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not what Raw Story or Media Matters implied, either. People\u2019s reactions to learning Planned Parenthood profited off something they thought they were \u201cdonating\u201d for a charitable purpose (assuming they knew their fetuses would be used for anything in the first place) is an interesting subject and a predictable side-effect of Planned Parenthood\u2019s duplicity. Exploring the duplicity no more\u00a0insults women than any of the million other fake controversies of the War on Women.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that attacks like this are dead on arrival to anyone who actually bothers to read the whole thing. The bad news is that the content doesn\u2019t need to be persuasive to accomplish Media Matters&#8217; or Raw Story\u2019s objective. So much of what these propaganda mills churn out isn\u2019t meant to persuade, but merely to provide grist for the rank-and-file\u2019s perpetual\u00a0outrage.<\/p>\n<p>As long as there\u2019s a hyperbolic title to show up in Twitter feeds and some stuff that looks about right when you skim it, voila!
