\"plannedLouisiana Gov. and presidential candidate Bobby Jindal earned some additional goodwill from pro-lifers by immediately ordering<\/a> an in-depth investigation into whether his state\u2019s Planned Parenthood was also complicit in the likely criminal<\/a>, definitely evil<\/a> practices highlighted in last week\u2019s explosive undercover video<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He followed up over the weekend with some hard truths on Steve Deace\u2019s radio show, helpfully saved for posterity<\/a> by the leftist bloggers at Right Wing Watch, who mistook Jindal\u2019s observations for examples of right-wing fanaticism:<\/p>\n

\n

“They try to defend themselves by saying this is health care and patient-centered,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is not health care. Abortions are not health care, and this is not about the patient. The patient in this case is that unborn baby. They\u2019ve got no concern for the unborn baby, and you can see that in the video.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Jindal also dismissed the famous Bill Clinton phrase calling for abortion to be “safe, legal and rare,” saying, \u201cWell, it’s never safe for the baby, first of all.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

RWW\u2019s Miranda Blue knocks the governor for implying that \u201cwhen a woman receives an abortion she is not a \u2018patient.\u2019\u201d If her gripe is that anyone undergoing a procedure that physically affects their health in some way is a patient, fair enough, but that misses Jindal\u2019s points. First, though sought for the mother\u2019s benefit, abortion acts on the child far more directly and significantly. Second, consider that the pro-abortion Alan Guttmacher Institute\u2019s own admission<\/a> that most women seeking abortions cite economic, career, or relationship motivations. If the \u201cbenefit\u201d you\u2019re seeking is not medical in nature, is \u201cpatient\u201d really the right word?<\/p>\n

Also note that, as usual, abortion not being safe for the baby is left unaddressed. But no matter. Salon assistant editor Jenny Kutner decided to run<\/a> with the scoop, fretting over Jindal\u2019s \u201cvery bizarre conception\u201d of abortion on the same grounds as RWW and adding additional complaints for good measure:<\/p>\n

Republican presidential hopeful and Lousiana [sic.] Gov. Bobby Jindal quickly outed himself last week as\u00a0someone who buys into the claims of a heavily edited anti-Planned Parenthood video<\/a>\u00a0that began circulating last week, which accuses the organization of illegally selling donated fetal tissue (known to some conservatives as \u201cbaby parts\u201d).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Couple things, Jenny: in your linked article, you do not specify a single edit in the video, heavy, deceptive, or otherwise. You just take it as an article of faith that whenever a pro-life organization releases footage casting Big Choice in a negative light, it must<\/em> be merely \u201cthe latest addition to an ongoing game of what we\u2019ll call Deceitful Anti-Choice Mad Libs,\u201d no substantiation necessary.<\/p>\n

Sadly, this is your side\u2019s standard operating procedure\u2014see, for instance, last year<\/a> when detractors of Live Action\u2019s SEXED undercover videos seemed to not have even watched them before confidently declaring them frauds.<\/p>\n

And by sneering that \u201cfetal tissue\u201d is \u201cknown to some conservatives<\/em> as\u201d baby parts, Kutner is simply projecting her own side\u2019s semantic dishonesty onto pro-lifers. In the video, Deborah Nucatola talks about \u201cgetting heart, lungs, [and] liver\u201d\u2014human organs, i.e., body parts by any sane, literate understanding of the words \u201cbody\u201d or \u201cparts.\u201d (\u201cBaby\u201d is also linguistically and medically valid<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

But according to the biological definition<\/a>, \u201ctissue\u201d is \u201ca group of structurally and functionally similar cells and their intercellular material\u201d that become \u201caggregated into<\/em> organs.\u201d A heart contains muscle tissue<\/a>, but is not itself \u201ca tissue.\u201d To suggest \u201cbaby parts\u201d is somehow inaccurate for describing organs taken from dead babies is sheer biological illiteracy.<\/p>\n

\n

The GOP presidential candidate went on to say there is \u201cno reason\u201d for taxpayers to continue to fund or support Planned Parenthood \u2014 because surely all those other services the organization provides, such as cancer screenings and contraception, aren\u2019t worth keeping around.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So without Planned Parenthood around, other health services would just disappear? The $500+ million a year<\/a> they get from the federal government couldn\u2019t be redirected to other state and local health programs or private organizations to screen for breast cancer\u2014which, unlike PP<\/a>, might actually provide mammograms? Without taxpayer dollars, poor Cecile Richards would be powerless to redirect a larger portion of the $300 million it gets in private revenue toward actual women\u2019s health?<\/p>\n

The more candidates like Bobby Jindal point them out, the more lies will be mobilized in response\u2014which will only provide more opportunities for pro-life candidates to expose the full extent of the dishonesty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
