Congress will investigate Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner announced today. \u00a0The investigation comes\u00a0in light of a shocking undercover video<\/a> released yesterday by the Center for Medical Progress, showing\u00a0Planned Parenthood Medical Director Dr. Deborah Nucatola casually munching on salad while describing how she strategically aborts children so their organs can be harvested.<\/p>\n

A number of Republican presidential hopefuls have already spoken<\/a> about the video, calling for Congress to investigate<\/a> and defund Planned Parenthood, which currently receives 45 percent of its $1.2 billion annual budget from\u00a0government funding<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaker John Boehner – who has tried to stop<\/a> taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood before – and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy gave statements today as well, referencing the sanctity of human life and the abortion practices they described as “gruesome” and “inhumane.” \u00a0Boehner stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Nothing is more precious than life, especially an unborn child.\u00a0 When anyone diminishes an unborn child, we are all hurt, irreversibly so.\u00a0 When an organization monetizes an unborn child \u2013 and with the cavalier attitude portrayed in this horrific \u00a0video\u00a0\u2013 we must all act.\u00a0\u00a0 As a start, I have asked our relevant committees to look into this matter. I am also calling on President Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell to denounce, and stop, these gruesome practices.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

McCarthy added<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Life is truly a miracle, and here in the House we have fought and will continue to fight to protect the sanctity of life.\u00a0I speak for all of my colleagues when I say I was deeply disturbed by reports and video of an organization engaging in such grotesque and inhumane practices. I will be working with House Committees to investigate the claims made by the employee. We should all agree that no life is expendable, and our society has no place for such callous indifference to life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion chain, receiving over $500 million in forced taxpayer funding every year. Every day, the abortion corporation receives $1.4 million in tax dollars, according to its annual report.<\/p>\n
