{"id":66047,"date":"2015-07-07T12:30:31","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T16:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=66047"},"modified":"2015-07-11T21:20:55","modified_gmt":"2015-07-12T01:20:55","slug":"scam-1m-abortion-threat-actually-book-marketing-hoax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/scam-1m-abortion-threat-actually-book-marketing-hoax\/","title":{"rendered":"Scam: $1M abortion threat actually a book marketing hoax"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prolifeantiwoman.com\/\">website<\/a> purporting to represent an anonymous graduate student threatening to abort her preborn child has proven to be a viral marketing hoax.<\/p>\n<p>As Live Action News <a href=\"\/news\/woman-asks-1-million-will-allegedly-abort-7-week-baby\/\">previously reported<\/a>, the anonymous woman\u00a0claimed to be protesting a new 72-hour waiting period in her home state. \u201cIf one million dollars is raised in those 72 hours then I\u2019ll have the baby, give it up for adoption and every cent of that one million dollars will be put in a trust fund for the child,\u201d the site\u00a0read. \u201cThe pro-life movement cares very little about saving lives and far more about controlling women by minimizing their choices in a wide variety of ways not the least of which is readily available reproductive health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the previous message and donation link have been removed from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prolifeantiwoman.com\/\">page<\/a>, replaced by the message, \u201cThe previous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prolifeantiwoman.com\/assets\/css\/images\/plaw.png\">website<\/a> was an augmented excerpt from the novel Strange Animals by Chad Kultgen,\u201d along with links to buy the book from various online stores.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-66054\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-07-at-8.55.52-AM-197x300.png\" alt=\"Strange Animals\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-07-at-8.55.52-AM-197x300.png 197w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-2015-07-07-at-8.55.52-AM.png 290w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/>The novel\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebound.org\/book\/9780062119575&amp;aff=authorweb\">Indiebound description<\/a> indicates that the anonymous pregnant woman is in fact the book\u2019s main character, Karen Halloway, who uses \u201cthe unique position pregnancy afforded her\u201d to \u201cchange the world\u2026When she accidentally gets pregnant, she has the epiphany she&#8217;s been looking for a way to transform the situation into an object lesson for mankind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The promotional text on the book\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0062119575\/ref=cm_sw_su_dp?tag=authorweb-20\">Amazon page<\/a> describes Kultgen as \u201cone of the most honest and candid chroniclers of human relationships working today.\u201d It is not yet known whether legal action will be taken against him for purporting to raise\u00a0money based on an abortion that would never happen for a pregnant woman who did not exist.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A website purporting to represent an anonymous graduate student threatening to abort her preborn child has proven to be a viral marketing hoax.
