{"id":64938,"date":"2015-06-17T21:42:24","date_gmt":"2015-06-18T02:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=64938"},"modified":"2021-07-14T21:30:43","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T02:30:43","slug":"arizona-abortion-pill-reversal-law-delayed-pending-legal-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/arizona-abortion-pill-reversal-law-delayed-pending-legal-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona abortion pill reversal law delayed pending legal challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Arizona has agreed to delay the implementation of its recently-signed abortion pill reversal law over a lawsuit by Planned Parenthood and pro-choice doctors, the <em>Arizona Republic<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/arizona\/politics\/2015\/06\/16\/arizona-abortion-law-put-hold\/28835273\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, pro-life physicians and activists have taken to <a href=\"\/news\/pro-life-obgyns-raise-awareness-of-advances-in-abortion-reversal-process\/\">exploring and promoting<\/a> the possibility of abortion pill reversal, in which someone who changes her mind after taking the first pill of RU-486 treatment, mifepristone, undergoes progesterone therapy to reverse its effects and save her child\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Pro-abortion commentators and activists have <a href=\"\/news\/not-medical-theater-reality-abortion-reversal-angers-abortion-backers\/\">bitterly denounced<\/a> the concept as junk science supported by no hard medical evidence. The lawsuit claims Arizona\u2019s law is unconstitutional on both First and Fourteenth Amendment grounds\u2014the former for requiring doctors to give \u201ca state-mandated message that is not medically or scientifically supported,\u201d the latter for inflicting \u201cfalse, misleading and\/or irrelevant information\u201d on patients.<\/p>\n<p>However, doctors in <a href=\"\/news\/not-medical-theater-reality-abortion-reversal-angers-abortion-backers\/\">Nebraska<\/a>, <a href=\"\/news\/women-who-sought-abortion-reversal-gives-birth-to-healthy-baby\/\">California<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2015\/06\/04\/planned-parenthood-sues-to-stop-arizona-law-telling-women-the-abortion-pill-can-be-reversed\/\">Arizona<\/a> all report specific cases of successfully stopping chemical abortions begun at Planned Parenthoods. The Arizona location had told the woman reversal was impossible and not taking the second pill would cause new complications, while the California one had refused to let her hear her baby\u2019s heartbeat.
