At just 19 weeks and 6 days gestation, Lexi Fretz rushed to the ER in labor. Due to an incompetent cervix, she gave birth to Walter Joshua Fretz\u00a0five\u00a0hours later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was crying so hard,\u201d she writes. \u201cHe was fully formed and everything was there. I could see his heart beating in his tiny chest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Walter\u2019s father, Joshua Fretz, quickly went to get his camera. He took photographs\u00a0of his wife,\u00a0Walter, and his daughters. That\u2019s when Walter\u2019s short life was given a lifetime of purpose.<\/p>\n<p>His photos and story went viral. E-mails and comments poured in, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I have always thought it was a woman\u2019s choice to abort a pregnancy! [\u2026] How wrong!!! I\u2019m glad you chose to share your story and beautiful photos of such a sad time in your life as you\u2019ve educated me!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I used to believe that there were reasons to justify some abortions. [\u2026] And now seeing Walter there lying on your chest brings me to shame for my former opinions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>[\u2026] you have put my life into perspective. [\u2026] I\u2019m keeping this baby. She got up and left, canceling her abortion appointment and choosing life for her child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all our hurt,\u201d said Lexi\u00a0Fretz, \u201cI am glad that some good can come out of this. I pray that the Lord will continue to use Walter\u2019s photos to impact many.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since losing Walter, the family has welcomed <a href=\"\/news\/mom-of-19-week-miscarried-baby-i-have-seen-walters-purpose\/\">daughter number three<\/a> to the family. Mia joined big sisters, Michayla and Emma, in the fall of 2014. A surgery at 13 weeks gestation allowed Lexi\u00a0Fretz\u00a0to carry Mia to term.
