They have kindly granted us permission to reprint here.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Americans United for Life is committed to the principle of reproductive justice. If that seems strange from a pro-life perspective, it is because the abortion lobby has usurped the phrase \u201creproductive justice\u201d\u009d to mean its antithesis.<\/p>\n<p>The National Organization of Women (NOW) defines \u201creproductive justice\u201d\u009d as the recognition \u201cthat reproductive oppression is a result of the intersection of multiple oppressions and is inherently connected to the struggle for social justice and human rights. Women of low economic means suffer consequences from the lack of access to complete health care (for example, the high rate of cervical cancers among women of color).\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>One does not have to dig deep to find NOW\u2019s definition of \u201ccomplete health care\u201d\u009d is not limited to cancer screenings but includes, and largely focuses on, abortion.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Sister Song, another organization claiming to advance \u201creproductive justice,\u201d\u009d adds, \u201cFor [reproductive justice] to become reality, we need to make change on the individual, family, community, and institutional levels to end all forms of oppression, including forces that deprive us of self-determination and control over our bodies, and limit our reproductive choices.\u201d\u009d The translation, again, is that abortion is central to reproductive justice.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the inclusion of abortion does not merely misunderstand reproductive justice, it undermines it. Early feminists made that point repeatedly.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_60494\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60494\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-60494\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Elizabeth-Cady-Stanton_Pioneer-for-Womens-Suffrage_HD_768x432-16x9-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Elizabeth Cady Stanton\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Elizabeth-Cady-Stanton_Pioneer-for-Womens-Suffrage_HD_768x432-16x9-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Elizabeth-Cady-Stanton_Pioneer-for-Womens-Suffrage_HD_768x432-16x9-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Elizabeth-Cady-Stanton_Pioneer-for-Womens-Suffrage_HD_768x432-16x9.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-60494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elizabeth Cady Stanton<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a leader in the fight for women\u2019s equality, noted abortion was in direct contradiction to the feminist cause, \u201cWhen we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>They understood that a liberated woman was not one free to choose abortion, but a woman free from abortion. The first female presidential candidate, Victoria Woodhull, emphasized this point in 1875, \u201cEvery woman knows that if she were free, she would never bear an unwished-for-child, nor think of murdering one before its birth.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Alice Paul, author of the first Equal Rights Amendment, stated it succinctly, \u201cAbortion is the ultimate exploitation of women.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-40080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/6655b78c9aa2e0d19a361856b0c19d08-300x257.jpg\" alt=\"baby, womb, pregnant, woman\" width=\"300\" height=\"257\" \/>Somehow in the last century we went from near universal agreement among women\u2019s rights leaders that women are the victim of the abortion industry, to modern day where so-called \u201cwomen\u2019s rights\u201d\u009d groups claim the abortion industry is our salvation. Women are now oppressed under a faulty promise of freedom. Feminism loses credibility when it is sold as costing others lives. Real reproductive justice is not just put on hold, but damaged when its meaning is perverted.<\/p>\n<p>Enough is enough. This March, in celebration of Women\u2019s History Month, Americans United for Life is taking the phrase \u201creproductive justice\u201d\u009d back from the abortion lobby and restoring its rightful meaning. Real reproductive justice is pro-woman, not pro-abortion.
