This is already encouraging news, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2014\/11\/13\/senate-gop-unanimously-elects-pro-life-mitch-mcconnell-leader-promises-5-month-abortion-ban\/\">promised<\/a> it will\u00a0come up for a vote, which never turned out to be the case under the leadership of Senator Harry Reid (D-NV).<\/p>\n<p>The bill <a href=\"\/news\/breaking-house-votes-to-ban-abortions-in-the-u-s-after-five-months\/\">passed<\/a> the U.S. House of Repsentatives last month, by a vote of 242 to 184. The vote took\u00a0place on the anniversary of the murder conviction of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. The bill would\u00a0prohibit abortions on a federal level past 20 weeks, with exceptions. The passage of this bill, even if it does not ultimately become law \u2014with a promised veto by President Obama \u2014brings hope and encouragement that legislation is moving\u00a0in the right direction. Several states have already passed their own versions of a 20-week ban, with <a href=\"http:\/\/m.jsonline.com\/news\/statepolitics\/experts-federal-trial-court-would-likely-strike-down-abortion-bill-b99515344z1-306630151.html\">some<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.postandcourier.com\/article\/20150602\/PC1603\/150609835\/1177\/house-strips-rape-incest-exceptions-from-20-week-abortion-ban\">states<\/a> including similar legislation for\u00a0consideration this session.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Given that life begins at conception,\u00a0<em>all <\/em>preborn children should be legally protected from abortion. For now, this is certainly a step in the right direction. While abortion advocates bemoan a\u00a020-week ban on pain-capable preborn children, they seem to be woefully and willfully ignorant of the fact that abortion so late in term is not only\u00a0agonizing for the child, but more dangerous for the mother. They also must be unaware of the fact that the United States is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lozierinstitute.org\/internationalabortionnorms\/\">one of only seven nations<\/a> which allows for abortions so late in term.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion advocates would like to tell you that women who have late-term abortions do so because the mother or child becomes afflicted with a health problem. This is <a href=\"\/news\/why-do-women-get-late-term-abortions\/\">not the case<\/a>, though, and the invasive and dangerous procedure that is late-term abortion is performed for more socioeconomic reasons. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion organization, noted in a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/pubs\/journals\/3811806b.html\">study<\/a>, that it\u00a0could\u00a0not\u00a0find one instance of a late-term abortion done for health reasons. And, even more tragically, almost one-third of women who abort so late in pregnancy<a href=\"\/news\/nearly-one-third-of-late-term-abortion-patients-had-a-late-term-abortion-before\/\">\u00a0will do so again. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Further, it is not rare. The Guttmacher Institute also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/pubs\/journals\/3811806b.html\">reported<\/a> that 1.2 percent of abortions were performed after 21 weeks. That number doesn\u2019t seem so small or insignicant when it turns out to be 18,000 a year, or 50 a day. This is the excruciating death of actual human beings, too, we\u2019re talking about.<\/p>\n<p>This claim is being spouted\u00a0by\u00a0the Huffington Post<em>, <\/em>which often <a href=\"\/news\/?s=Huffington+Post\">writes<\/a> pieces in support of abortion. Writer Laura Bassett\u00a0mentions\u00a0that the American Congress of Gynocologists and Obstetricians oppose; however,\u00a0readers should be forewarned: this group is <a href=\"http:\/\/m.acog.org\/About-ACOG\/ACOG-Departments\/Health-Care-for-Underserved-Women\/Resource-Guide-Abortion?IsMobileSet=true\">pro-abortion.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is also curious to note that Bassett titles her piece \u201cLindsey Graham Reintroduces 20-Week Abortion Ban: \u2018I Am Dying For That Debate.\u2019\u201d Is the quote\u00a0from the senator considered insulting? If so, Huffington Post needs to try harder! While Graham may not literally be dying, one can understand the anticipation and hope when the Senate\u00a0finally votes on\u00a0the bill.<\/p>\n<p>And let us not forget a more sobering thought: there are preborn children\u00a0dying, and they are the innocent, defenseless and vulnerable children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) introduced the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
