Venous thromboembolism occurs when a blood clot forms in the leg; the clot then travels to the lungs and restricts breathing. VTE, as it is called, can be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>Tragically, a young woman named <a href=\"\/news\/21-year-old-dies-after-taking-birth-control-pill\/\">Fallan Kurek<\/a> recently died from a blood clot on her lung, caused by birth control pills she recently started taking.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Desogestrel and cyproterone are used in newer birth control pills, as opposed to leveonorgestrel and norgestimate, which are used in older birth control\u00a0pills. Because of these discrepancies, the pills containing desogestrel and cyproterone bring twice the risk of VTE.<\/p>\n<p>However, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2015\/05\/27\/birth-control-blood-clots_n_7445896.html\">Huffington Post reports<\/a>: \u201cWomen who take <i>any<\/i> kind of birth control pill are at a slightly higher risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke. In fact, in this course of study, researchers found that patients on birth control had a threefold risk of developing VTE compared to women who weren\u2019t on any birth control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yana Vinogradova, a researcher involved in the study, said of the findings: \u201cOur findings are not novel \u2013 the size and quality of our study simply make our estimates of the relative VTE risks associated with different drug types more accurate and more reliable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the dangers that\u00a0oral contraceptives pose\u00a0to women is\u00a0not new. Under the abortion lobby&#8217;s guise of \u201cwomen\u2019s healthcare,\u201d this new study just highlights an increased risk.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ajT\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl.gstatic.com\/ui\/v1\/icons\/mail\/images\/cleardot.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"adL\">\n<p>Birth control pills, which are also known as combined estrogen-progestogen oral contraceptives, have been listed as a Group 1 carcinogen by World Health Organization since 1999. The International Agency for Research on Cancer designated five cancer risk categories that classify whether or not a substance is a carcinogen, and the varying levels of certainty that lie in between the parameters of absolute certainty. Group 1 carcinogens are the highest risk category possible, labeled definitively as \u201ccarcinogenic to humans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to findings by World Health Organization, combined estrogen-progestogen oral contraceptives (COC\u2019s), increase the risk of cervix, breast and liver cancer. However, WHO states they decrease the risks of endometrial and ovarian cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women in the United States. One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. So why would we want to prescribe women <i>anything <\/i>that would increase those odds?<\/p>\n<p>We medicate women\u2019s fertility and end the lives of preborn children, all for the sake of \u201creproductive freedom\u201d \u2013 in the name of \u201cprogress.\u201d This newer version of the birth control pill does not truly symbolize freedom, and it certainly does not stand for progress.<\/p>\n<p>To buy cigarettes in order to smoke tobacco, another Group 1 carcinogen, you must be at least 18 years old in the United States. In a report brief by the Institute of Medicine, the idea of raising the minimum age of purchasing cigarettes at a state or local level is discussed. The arguments behind doing so\u00a0are grounded in the principle of public health. As a Group 1 carcinogen, tobacco can negatively affect the developing brain of adolescents and young adults. So in hopes of raising the minimum age of purchase, the number of adolescent and young adult users will decrease, thus decreasing the risks of tobacco-related diseases, such as various forms of cancer and heart disease.<\/p>\n<p>If society is not satisfied with allowing\u00a018 year olds to purchase cigarettes because of the carcinogenic health risks, why is there no minimum age limit for\u00a0birth control pills? On Planned Parenthood\u2019s website, it states that for the most part, teenagers do not need their parent\u2019s permission to acquire birth control, depending on the state they live in. It\u2019s scary to think that most teenagers have relatively easy access to pills\u00a0that could result in a blood clot and even death.<\/p>\n<p>Is this really the best our society\u00a0has to offer women?<\/p>\n<p>As Live Action President <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/\">Lila Rose<\/a> said, \u201cFertility is not a sickness that we need to medicate\u2026we can do better than this, as women and as a country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new study on birth control by the British medical journal, BMJ, reports\u00a0that newer birth control pills increase the risk of blood clots, a condition called venous thromboembolism, by twofold.
