{"id":63356,"date":"2015-05-06T07:51:52","date_gmt":"2015-05-06T11:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=63356"},"modified":"2015-05-07T17:19:37","modified_gmt":"2015-05-07T21:19:37","slug":"niece-canadian-abortionist-promotes-culture-life-tv-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/niece-canadian-abortionist-promotes-culture-life-tv-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Niece of Canadian abortionist promotes culture of life through TV show"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-63357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Patty-Hunter.jpg\" alt=\"Patty Hunter\" width=\"245\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Patty-Hunter.jpg 293w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Patty-Hunter-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/>Patty Hunter can talk like she\u2019s known you forever when you&#8217;ve just met\u2014 which is fitting for her TV host and producer occupation at Allen County, Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0station Access Fort Wayne\u2014 with a potential audience of a quarter million viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter what I&#8217;ve seen in my past; after what I&#8217;ve witnessed, I\u2019m not afraid anymore,\u201d says Hunter, who uses her weekly show &#8220;Patty\u2019s Page &#8220;to draw awareness to the dangers of abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to be so shy that I would turn this red,\u201d she tells me, indicating a shade of yarn that she\u2019s knitting with during our Skype interview. \u201cBut I\u2019m not shy anymore, man!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Hunter has been a poet and lyricist for close to three decades, penning words to songs like \u201cGod Speed,\u201d which was sung by Canadian country music singer Patricia Conroy. For five years, Hunter hosted all manner of artistic figures\u2014 from head honcho of the tribute rock band Brit Floyd, to actresses Patty Duke and Lauren Chapin. But her first guest was from a crisis pregnancy Hope Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve always loved life,\u201d says Hunter, who is a member of Lutherans for Life and Allen County Right to Life. \u201cWhen I was a little girl, whenever I would see an animal die\u2026I would just go to pieces, because I love life. I didn&#8217;t want anything to suffer or die.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd as I grew up, I found out my aunt was an abortionist,\u201d recalls Hunter, who is originally from Toronto and whose maternal aunt became a doctor there in the 1940s when it was largely a men\u2019s profession. When Hunter asked what an abortionist did, her mother assured her that the job only involved removing blobs of tissue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I knew,\u201d says Hunter, \u201cand she knew. They just didn&#8217;t want to admit to it, that it was taking a child\u2019s life.\u201d People whom Hunter knew had abortions more than once, and one friend nearly lost her life in childbirth due to complications caused by a prior abortion. As soon as she found out that her own gynecologist was an assistant to her abortionist Aunt Anne, Hunter quit seeing her. But Hunter\u2019s mother continued to work for Aunt Anne as a receptionist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt bothered me to no end,\u201d Hunter remembers. \u201cI was Roman Catholic in those days. It brought awareness of how life is important. It hurts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aunt Anne never married, and in 1975 she died in the Bahamas while doing research to cure syphilis. Hunter never hated her aunt, but she was so angered at the deaths of innocent children that it took her 40 years to forgive her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know whether she ever repented,\u201d says Hunter, who has been grateful to pro-life groups\u2019 help in easing her pain.<\/p>\n<p>In 1988, abortion was legalized in Canada. \u201cCanada is more liberal, killing more kids than the United States,\u201d observes Hunter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe generation now knows no other way of thinking. They think it\u2019s a normal thing to do, to kill your baby\u2026We have to re-teach the generation that life is important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what Hunter intends to do with &#8220;Patty\u2019s Page.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a page out of my life, really,\u201d says Hunter. Hunter has been surprised by the variety of people who have embraced her show and will give her a hug and thanks when they find her in public.
