Wade<\/em>, pro-abortion activists worked on the state level to legalize abortion. Several states revised their abortion laws before\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0 struck down all anti-abortion laws nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first states to have its laws against abortion repealed was New York. New York would become a hub for abortion, as women throughout the country flocked there to have their pregnancies ended\u00a0and\u00a0their babies killed.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Don Sloan, who has performed over 20,000 abortions, wrote about the vote that legalized abortion in New York in his book, &#8220;Abortion: A Doctor\u2019s Perspective, a Woman\u2019s Dilemma<em>.&#8221;<\/em> There were not enough votes to allow for repeal, but one \u201cpro-life\u201d legislator changed his vote at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Sloan writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We had needed only a single precious vote to go our way, and one conservative upstate lawmaker had switched his vote at the last minute. A colleague said the vote had gone their way because the legislator was counting on abortion to limit the number of poor babies and keep the welfare rolls down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was part people who want to put abortion into the medical code where it belongs and part racism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I hated to think that abortion reform had come out of such a philosophy, but I knew plenty of people saw abortion as a way to control the poor. . . Ending poverty would never be so simple as getting rid of poor babies. But if indeed that had been the reason behind the vote, it wouldn\u2019t have been new in history.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/poor-children-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"poor-children\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" \/>Eliminating the poor in order to save money may have been the reason abortion was legalized in New York. It may have been the reason why thousands of babies died there even before <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>How many pro-abortion activists were motivated by the desire to save taxpayer money at the expense of preborn lives?
