Jemima Kirke, star of the HBO series “Girls,” recently opened up about her abortion at age 17. In a video<\/a> for the Center for Reproductive Rights<\/a>, she says at that time, she didn’t feel it would be fair to allow her child to live because she wasn’t ready\u00a0to be a mother.<\/p>\n

Kirke says she is\u00a0sharing her story in order to\u00a0end\u00a0stigma surrounding abortion. Unfortunately, all Kirke\u00a0really proves\u00a0is how anti-woman and greedy the abortion industry really is, and just how much those in favor of abortion are missing the big picture.<\/p>\n

  1. \u201cMy life was not conducive to raising a happy, healthy child.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This is something that so many young women facing unexpected pregnancies say to convince themselves \u2014 and others\u2014 that abortion is a choice they make. In reality, it\u2019s the only option\u00a0they think they have, which makes it no choice at all.<\/p>\n

    There are so many mothers who gave birth to a\u00a0child as teenagers, and they thrived. It\u2019s an amazing gift to know that you were so loved before your mother even saw your face\u2014 that she changed her entire world for you.<\/p>\n

    The\u00a0idea that a woman can\u2019t raise her child is the antithesis of feminism. A woman can do anything she puts her mind to.<\/p>\n

    If her life doesn\u2019t feel conducive to a child, she can change her life. She can put herself through school. She can raise a child without a man. She can start her own business in her living room with her child sitting next to her. It\u2019s been done before, and it will be done again. The issue is not that\u00a0her life is not conducive, it\u2019s that the mother\u00a0does\u00a0not wish\u00a0to make the changes or the effort to make it so.<\/p>\n

    Finally, even if a mother’s\u00a0life situation was truly poor\u00a0for a child\u00a0(let\u2019s say she was a drug user or child abuser), that does\u00a0not\u00a0mean there is no one who is in a good place to raise a happy and healthy child.<\/p>\n

    There are more people waiting to adopt<\/a> a baby than there are babies to adopt. It takes an act of complete selflessness to give birth to a child and allow someone else to raise that child. And those women are mothers in every sense of the word. They not only gave their children the gift of life, but gave a couple the gift of a child.<\/p>\n

    1. \u201cI wasn\u2019t sure I wanted to be attached to this person for the rest of my life.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Kirke’s statement refers to her boyfriend with whom she became pregnant. \u00a0Her admission correlates with the reason why some wait for marriage to have sex! And for all the criticism that frame of mind receives, Kirke’s statement proves it all. You are choosing to participate in sex with someone you don\u2019t really feel you even want to be with. Teenagers make horrible decisions, and this is one of them.<\/p>\n

      1. \u201cBecause I couldn\u2019t tell my mother that I was pregnant, I had to pay for it out of pocket. I did have to, you know, empty my checking account. [\u2026] I realized that if I didn\u2019t take the anesthesia, I would be able to afford to do this. And the anesthesia was only\u2026 it wasn\u2019t that much more, but when you’re scrounging for however many hundreds of dollars, it\u2019s a lot. I just didn\u2019t have it.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Kirke says that she went to Planned Parenthood for her abortion. Planned Parenthood\u2014you know, the \u201cnon-profit\u201d abortion leader that claims\u00a0its mission is to help women and girls. How were they helping Kirke? They let her go through a likely painful procedure without anesthesia because she couldn\u2019t pay up. It\u2019s never been more obvious that Planned Parenthood\u00a0does not\u00a0put their patients first\u00a0\u2014it\u2019s all about profit.<\/p>\n

        1. \u201cWe do have free choice, and we are able to do whatever we want.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          We can do whatever we want\u00a0\u2014 wait, what? Can we just walk up to someone and punch them? No, it\u2019s called assault. Can we just take money from the company we work for? No, it\u2019s called embezzlement. Can we speed? Can we do drugs? Can we provide alcohol to minors? No,\u00a0no, and no. All of these things are illegal\u00a0\u2014 we can\u2019t do whatever we want. We can make our own choices, but if those choices hurt others or even ourselves, we get arrested. Except in the case of abortion.<\/p>\n

          1. \u201cI still see shame and embarrassment around terminating pregnancies\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            This is absolutely true. There is a reason women feel that way after having an abortion. But it isn\u2019t because there are people attacking them, especially if they are hiding the abortion. It\u2019s because they feel shame for what they have done. Should they forgive themselves? Yes. If you feel shame over an abortion, find peace and forgiveness for yourself. Then\u00a0step up to help end abortion and stop friends from making the same mistake.<\/p>\n

            No matter how Kirke and abortion advocates try to spin it, abortion is as anti-feminist as it gets. We are told by the abortion industry that girls and women are too young, uneducated, alone, broke, and incapable of raising their children. Women like Kirke must stop feeding and promoting the idea that women can\u2019t do anything they dream of, with or without children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
