{"id":6239,"date":"2011-09-09T21:19:48","date_gmt":"2011-09-10T01:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/?p=6239"},"modified":"2013-04-01T06:47:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-01T10:47:00","slug":"dear-new-york-stand-for-all-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dear-new-york-stand-for-all-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Dear New York, stand for all life"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>While the media buzzes appropriately about terror threats to New York City, it is easy to overlook a daily threat to the City\u2019s unborn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/new-york.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6244\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"new-york\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/new-york.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a>New York City is home of the Yankees, Broadway, and one of the highest abortion rates in the country. \u00a0A report by the New York Department of Health in 2010 revealed that 41% of all pregnancies in the City end in abortion. \u00a0A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc41percent.com\/\">release<\/a> from the Chiaroscuro Foundation narrowed down the results even more, finding that 56% of these were repeat abortions, and 38% were paid for by Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Jill Stanek published an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jillstanek.com\/2011\/09\/new-york-citys-astronomical-abortion-rate-unzipped-56-repeats-38-govt-funded\/\">article<\/a> on the Chiaroscuro Foundation findings, further breaking down these statistics. \u00a0Two of the highest abortion rate neighborhoods were Chelsea (67% abortion rate) and trendy Greenwich Village (60%). \u00a0Both of these areas are just a short taxi ride away from Ground Zero.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->As we prepare to honor the ten-year anniversary of the September 11th attacks, let\u2019s not neglect the attacks on innocent life happening daily in the same prominent city. \u00a0According to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/doh\/downloads\/pdf\/vs\/2009sum.pdf\">New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene<\/a>, there were 87,273 New York City abortions in 2009 alone. \u00a0To put this into perspective, that is equivalent to approximately <strong>one 9\/11 every twelve days.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The attacks on September 11th sparked something in New York City, and in our nation as a whole. \u00a0\u201cTerror\u201d was no longer something abstract to New Yorkers, but a specific action that had taken the lives of family, friends and coworkers. In the most generic sense of the term, our nation was united as pro-life. \u00a0Innocent life had been taken, and Americans agreed that it was unacceptable. \u00a0Though there were disagreements on how to respond, all agreed: something must be done.<\/p>\n<p>Today New Yorkers and people across our country must reach the same conclusion about abortion. \u00a0Unlike the 9\/11 attacks, we don\u2019t always have concrete images of friends and family that are lost due to abortion. \u00a0Similarly, because abortion is so common, we likely don\u2019t \u201cremember where we were\u201d when these attacks on life took place. Still, something must be done.<\/p>\n<p>Whether caused by an act of terror, or funded in a legal clinic by your taxpayer dollars, an attack on innocent life is always unacceptable. \u00a0With such high abortion rates, New Yorkers should take a stand and defend the unborn in the City.
