A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/poll-who-would-americans-consider-voting-for-in-2016\/\">CBS News poll<\/a> includes a section titled &#8220;The deal-breakers: What rules candidates in or out?&#8221; Second to ISIS (61 percent), just over half (51 percent) of Republicans would not vote for someone who had a different opinion on abortion as them.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The poll also asks:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"a\">Q16. Which of these comes closest to you<span class=\"l6\">r view? 1. Abortion should be generally available to those who want it. 2. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">Abortion should be available but under stricter limits than it is now. 3. Abortion should not be permitted.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"a\">One-quarter of all voters fall into the latter view in believing that abortion should not be permitted. \u00a0While 38 percent of voters think that abortion should generally be available. A majority of Democratic voters support available abortion,\u00a0but not overwhelmingly, at\u00a0only 54 percent.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\"><span class=\"l\">Thirty-four percent of all voters fall into the second view, including a plurality of Republicans at 39 percent. Such a view is encouraging for pro-life bills which take a gradual approach when it comes to eradicating abortion through limits which a considerable amount of voters support. Such limits may not save all preborn children from abortion, but are nevertheless effective in that they can save many, while still being supported by the American voter and thus being likely to pass.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For instance, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2015\/04\/02\/every-potential-republican-presidential-candidate-endorses-20-week-abortion-ban\/\">a 20 week ban on abortion enjoys the endorsement of every potential GOP presidential candidate. <\/a>The bill also has broad support from voters, as evidenced by data <a href=\"http:\/\/pollingcompany.com\/poll-vault\/tpcwt-post-election-data-shows-support-for-gop-push-to-ban-abortion-after-20-weeks\/\">from<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/congressional-connection\/coverage\/americans-narrowly-support-20-week-abortion-ban-20130626\">various<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quinnipiac.edu\/news-and-events\/quinnipiac-university-poll\/national\/release-detail?ReleaseID=2115\">polls<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/07\/11\/abortion-poll_n_3575551.html\">across <\/a>the ideological spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>In reporting on the CBS poll results, <em>The Washington Times <\/em>suggests that abortion is one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2015\/mar\/30\/2016-election-when-considering-candidates-biggest-\/\">&#8220;the biggest litmus test for GOP voters.&#8221;<\/a> Thus this is an issue the candidates cannot afford to ignore during the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>It is also worth noting that a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/poll\/170249\/split-abortion-pro-choice-pro-life.aspx\">Gallup poll <\/a>from last May shows that those who considers themselves pro-life, compared to those the poll describes as pro-choice, are more likely to &#8220;only vote for a candidate who shares [their] abortion views.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-62358 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ImpactOfAbortionOnVote2014GallupPollMay2014-573px_573_272_55.jpg\" alt=\"ImpactOfAbortionOnVote2014GallupPollMay2014-573px_573_272_55\" width=\"573\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ImpactOfAbortionOnVote2014GallupPollMay2014-573px_573_272_55.jpg 573w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ImpactOfAbortionOnVote2014GallupPollMay2014-573px_573_272_55-300x142.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 573px) 100vw, 573px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pro-lifers should remain hopeful though this time that abortion will get the attention it deserves in the 2016 presidential election.\u00a0If the back-and-forth between Rand Paul and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is any indication, it very well could happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A poll from last month also shows this.
