{"id":58964,"date":"2015-01-31T06:38:38","date_gmt":"2015-01-31T11:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=58964"},"modified":"2015-01-30T23:07:50","modified_gmt":"2015-01-31T04:07:50","slug":"states-begin-2015-with-pro-life-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/states-begin-2015-with-pro-life-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"States begin 2015 with pro-life bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Less than one month into the new year, and newly sworn in state legislatures across the country are already taking a stand for life.<\/p>\n<p>In Pennsylvania, the same day radically pro-choice Governor Tom Wolf assumed office, pro-life State Senator John Eichelberger introduced the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/cfdocs\/billInfo\/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2015&amp;sInd=0&amp;body=s&amp;type=b&amp;bn=292\">Conscientious Objection Act<\/a>, which would allow health care providers to opt out of providing services that violate their conscience \u2013 such as abortion, birth control, and the morning-after pill \u2013 as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/cfdocs\/billInfo\/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2015&amp;sInd=0&amp;body=s&amp;type=b&amp;bn=291\">legislation<\/a> to prevent local municipalities from using public money for abortions in cases not authorized by state law.<\/p>\n<p>In South Carolina last week, a House panel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalrighttolifenews.org\/news\/2015\/01\/fetal-pain-bill-advances-in-south-carolina-house-judiciary-subcommittee\/#.VMbeesaa6wJ\">unanimously passed<\/a> the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which creates a new compelling state interest in limiting abortions after 20 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>An Indiana state senator has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2015\/01\/13\/bill-ban-abortions-fetal-disability-gender\/21686853\/\">introduced a bill<\/a> that would make it a felony for an abortion provider to perform an abortion knowing that the reason is either gender selection or a genetic mental or physical disability, such as Down syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>In Kentucky, the State Senate, by an overwhelming majority, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2015\/01\/13\/kentucky-senate-passes-pro-life-bill-to-inform-women-of-abortion-risks-alternatives\/\">passed a bill<\/a> requiring that an abortion provider and pregnant woman meet face-to-face at least 24 hours before the abortion. According to the bill\u2019s sponsor, \u201c[t]he importance of a face-to-face medical consultation prior to consenting to a surgical procedure is a widely accepted medical standard of care \u2013 and Kentucky wom[e]n deserve no less.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the pro-life New York State Senate <a href=\"\/news\/pro-life-new-york-senators-stop-dangerous-pro-abortion-measure\/\">successfully halted a measure<\/a> that would have legalized abortions up to the moment of birth.<\/p>\n<p>In Tennessee, pro-life state lawmakers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2015\/01\/13\/tennessee-pro-life-women-legislators-announce-new-pro-life-bills-to-stop-abortions\/\">announced during a press conference<\/a> that they would support polices including informed consent and the requirement that abortion facilities be held to the same standards of health and safety as other outpatient surgical facilities.<\/p>\n<p>And in Texas, State Representative Jeff Leach <a href=\"http:\/\/go.nationalpartnership.org\/site\/News2?abbr=daily2_&amp;page=NewsArticle&amp;id=46585\">introduced a bill<\/a> that would prohibit school sex education and health programs from using curricula created by \u201can entity or individual that performs abortions or an affiliate of an entity or individual that performs abortions.\u201d It\u2019s no secret that America\u2019s largest abortion mill, Planned Parenthood, has a <a href=\"\/news\/the-disturbing-influence-planned-parenthood-has-on-our-schools\/\">vested interest<\/a> in sex education.<\/p>\n<p>The tide has long been turning in favor of life across America, and the generation of Americans moving into leadership is increasingly pro-life. Indeed, according to a 2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/poll\/162374\/americans-abortion-views-steady-amid-gosnell-trial.aspx\">Gallup poll<\/a>, 57 percent of Millennials believe that abortion should be either illegal in all circumstances or severely limited. Considering this, it\u2019s no surprise that the pro-life trend will be reflected in state legislatures.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, we can expect to see even more states stepping up to protect the lives that the Supreme Court so handily discarded 42 years ago.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Less than one month into the new year, and newly sworn in state legislatures across the country are already taking a stand for life.
