On Tuesday night, in his State of the Union address, President Obama said<\/a> (emphasis mine):<\/p>\n

I want future generations to know that we are a people who see our differences as a great gift, that we are a people who value the dignity and worth of every citizen<\/strong> – man and woman, young and old, black and white, Latino and Asian, immigrant and Native American, gay and straight, Americans with mental illness or physical disability. [Emphasis mine.]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Speaking of children and life, he also said:<\/p>\n

I want our actions to tell every child<\/strong>, in every neighborhood: your life matters<\/strong>, and we are as committed to improving your life chances as we are for our own kids. [Emphasis mine.]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As Steven Crowder explained<\/a>, the president’s message of “your life matters” clearly applies only to children who are already born. Not to “every child.”<\/p>\n

And we’re not just talking about a new, unique human being at the stage of fertilization\/conception<\/a> \u2014 though her life is equally valuable, and she is equally a child at that point,<\/a> too. Our president doesn’t believe in stopping abortion even when an unborn child can scientifically feel pain<\/a><\/em>. He doesn’t believe in stopping it even when the child could live outside the womb on his own. He didn’t believe in saving the lives even of children who had survived abortion attempts.<\/p>\n

That’s<\/em> how much “your life matters” to him.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this sad fact was driven home even more by President Obama’s comment on future generations. He said that “we are a people who value the dignity and worth of every citizen,<\/em>” not every human being<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This is notably different from the Declaration of Independence, where our Founding Fathers declared that “all men [meaning all people] are created [not born] equal.” Our nation isn’t a nation that values a human being only once he or she is a citizen. Our nation was founded on the principle of valuing individual human beings, and recognizing their inherent, created worth \u2014 from the moment of their creation, not the moment of their citizenship.<\/p>\n

\"everyIronically, President Obama stated: “Surely we can agree that the right to vote is sacred; that it’s being denied to too many.” And yet, if we can’t even agree that the right to life<\/em> is sacred and being denied to too many, of what worth is the right to vote, really?<\/p>\n

The president wants us to “every day, live the idea that we are our brother’s keeper, and our sister’s keeper,” and that is exactly what we do when we oppose abortion and inspire others to choose life every single day.<\/p>\n

He wants us to “appeal to each other’s basic decency,” and indeed, what else is a call to stop pulling apart unborn children<\/a> \u2014 our future generations \u2014 limb by limb?<\/p>\n

He encouraged us to “talk issues, and values, and principles, and facts.” So yes, let’s talk \u2014 really talk \u2014 about the issue of abortion, the value of the equality of rights, the principle of life being a basic human right without which we have no other rights, and the facts that every abortion is cruel and violent<\/a>, along with the indisputable facts<\/em> <\/a>that every unborn child is a human being<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Our future generations.<\/p>\n

Whose every life<\/a> does, indeed, matter<\/a>.<\/p>\n
