What type of work does Dr. Carhart do? He performs late-term abortions. To render \u201cthe baby\u201d (that\u2019s the term Carhart uses at 3:41) pliable and easy to dismember, his or her corpse is left sitting inside mom for several days. The effect, Dr. Carhart explains, is \u201clike putting meat in a crock pot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While comparing <a title=\"http:\/\/www.herestheblood.com\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.herestheblood.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">dead infants <\/a>to pot roast isn\u2019t exactly appetizing, a crock-pot analogy does sum up how the abortion industry treats its clients. \u201cChoice providers\u201d draw in women facing difficult circumstances, turn up the heat by downplaying or hiding alternatives to abortion, and then water down reluctance by dehumanizing their offspring. The result is a pliable figure who can be <del>manipulated<\/del> counseled into a preferred decision. Granted, she might horribly regret that decision, engage in self-destructive behavior, and ultimately commit suicide,\u00a0 but by then it&#8217;s not really a problem: they already have her money.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood is America\u2019s largest\u00a0 abortion practitioner, ending almost <a title=\"Annual Report 2012-2013\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/7413\/9620\/1089\/AR-FY13_111213_vF_rev3_ISSUU.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">three hundred thirty thousand<\/a> young lives annually. The group seems eager to keep that title: In 2013, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains presented its Aurora, CO office with <a title=\"Planned Parenthood responds to the \u201ccertificate of death\u201d that went viral\" href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-responds-to-the-certificate-of-death-that-went-viral\/\" target=\"_blank\">an award<\/a> for having increased the number of abortions over the previous year.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52142\" style=\"width: 237px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52142\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-52142 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/aurora-abortion-quota-227x300.jpg\" alt=\"aurora-abortion-quota\" width=\"227\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/aurora-abortion-quota-227x300.jpg 227w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/aurora-abortion-quota-530x700.jpg 530w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/aurora-abortion-quota.jpg 645w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-52142\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Safe, legal, and&#8230; Well, it&#8217;s legal, anyway.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>How does Planned Parenthood keep those numbers up? Former employee Catherine Adair has provided some insight.<\/p>\n<p>In July, pro-life activist <a title=\"Sarah Terzo \" href=\"\/news\/author\/sarah-terzo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Terzo<\/a> interviewed Adair<a title=\"Former Planned Parenthood staffer: \u201cwe never discussed fetal development\u201d\" href=\"\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-staffer-we-never-discussed-fetal-development\/\" target=\"_blank\"> about her work<\/a> with Planned Parenthood. She recalled that, \u201cThe counseling was not meant to be an opportunity to discuss the woman\u2019s decision to abort.\u201d Rather, this exercise &#8220;was merely a pre-operative screening.&#8221; As for abortion alternatives, \u201cWe did have to ask her if she was aware she could continue her pregnancy and give the baby up for adoption, but we didn&#8217;t get into any options counseling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For an organization that derives a <a title=\" DATA: 36.7% of Planned Parenthood\u2019s 2008 \u201cHealth Center Income\u201d is from Abortions\" href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/data-36-7-of-planned-parenthoods-health-center-income-is-from-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\">nine figure income<\/a> from abortion, discussing other options isn&#8217;t too helpful. Neither is offering details about fetal development, like the fact that a heartbeat starts around\u00a0<a title=\"Fetal development: The first trimester\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-living\/pregnancy-week-by-week\/in-depth\/prenatal-care\/art-20045302?pg=1\" target=\"_blank\">the third week<\/a> following conception. Research by Dr. Kawaljeet Anand suggesting that a pre-born child is capable of <a title=\"Small survivors: How the disputed science of fetal pain is reshaping abortion law Read more at http:\/\/national.deseretnews.com\/article\/216\/Small-survivors-How-the-disputed-science-of-fetal-pain-is-reshaping-abortion-law.html#R91LXYpA3gGfTqLV.99\" href=\"http:\/\/national.deseretnews.com\/article\/216\/Small-survivors-How-the-disputed-science-of-fetal-pain-is-reshaping-abortion-law.html\" target=\"_blank\">feeling pain<\/a> by week twenty isn&#8217;t likely to get mentioned either.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the rare occasion a woman asked about the size of the baby, I would tell her it was about the size of the tip of my pencil, regardless of how many weeks into her pregnancy she was.\u201d That may have been the line given to patients, but Ms. Adair knew that the reality was quite different. &#8220;When I saw a second trimester abortion, I saw dismembered arms and legs, with perfect feet and hands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Once the abortion was over, support wasn&#8217;t on the agenda. \u201cThere was absolutely no talk of any kind of mental health help or counseling, because that would have been tantamount to admitting that women suffer emotionally after abortion and Planned Parenthood is always going to deny that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Planned Parenthood might want to deny that many women suffer from abortion, the evidence says otherwise. <a title=\"Suicides after pregnancy in Finland, 1987\u201394: register linkage study\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/313\/7070\/1431\" target=\"_blank\">A study<\/a> published in the British Journal of Medicine indicates that post-abortive women are at a higher <a title=\"Suicides after pregnancy in Finland, 1987\u201394: register linkage study\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/313\/7070\/1431\" target=\"_blank\">risk of suicide.<\/a> That\u2019s also consistent with anecdotes published at the <a title=\"Testimonies\" href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Silent No More Awareness Campaign<\/a>, a group that helps women share their abortion-related pain. Stories involving <a title=\"Grief--Louisa\" href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/testimonies\/testimony.aspx?ID=3225\" target=\"_blank\">depression<\/a>, <a title=\"Not an Easy Fix--Nancy \" href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/testimonies\/testimony.aspx?ID=3074\" target=\"_blank\">suicidal thoughts<\/a>, <a title=\"My Children Have a Voice--Victoria \" href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/testimonies\/testimony.aspx?ID=3071\" target=\"_blank\">drug use<\/a>, and <a title=\"Under Durress--Jessica\" href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/testimonies\/testimony.aspx?ID=3207\" target=\"_blank\">duress<\/a> are common.<\/p>\n<p>Duress is common in the abortion industry. By some accounts, <a title=\"Induced abortion and traumatic stress: A preliminary comparison of American and Russian women\" href=\"http:\/\/www.medscimonit.com\/download\/index\/idArt\/11784\" target=\"_blank\">more than half <\/a>of all women who abort only do so under pressure. Catherine Adair told the <a title=\"Number of Ex-Abortion Industry Workers Who Have Chosen Life Growing  \" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/daily-news\/number-of-ex-abortion-industry-workers-who-have-chosen-life-growing\/#ixzz37FY77ASn\" target=\"_blank\">National Catholic Register<\/a> that it wasn&#8217;t unusual to see young women who had been brought to the clinic by their abusers. That&#8217;s not surprising, as <a title=\"Forced Abortion 3: Violence Can Lead to Murder\" href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/forced-abortion-3-violence-can-lead-to-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\">abusive men<\/a> who want to avoid responsibility and child support have a strong incentive to book a clinic appointment. Women can face <a title=\"Man 'begged friend to kill his girlfriend' after she refused to get abortion \" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2338710\/Man-begged-friend-kill-girlfriend-refused-abortion.html\" target=\"_blank\">gunshots<\/a>, <a title=\"Surrey man convicted in 2005 murder of pregnant lover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/surrey-man-convicted-in-2005-murder-of-pregnant-lover-1.1357452\" target=\"_blank\">stab wounds<\/a>, <a title=\"Maine man accused of killing Shaniesha Forbes thought she was pregnant\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/crime\/maine-man-accused-killing-shaniesha-forbes-thought-pregnant-article-1.1345779\" target=\"_blank\">arson attacks<\/a>, <a title=\" Pa. Men Gets Life For Firebombings\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apnewsarchive.com\/2002\/Pa-Men-Gets-Life-For-Firebombings\/id-154f7d5446a665b04600c8d1c231ae7a\" target=\"_blank\">bombings<\/a>, and <a title=\"Slain pregnant woman refused to have abortion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/cityguides\/toronto\/info\/story.html?id=16c6d45c-7ef1-4068-bd8f-65838bbd9132\" target=\"_blank\">fatal beatings<\/a> when they&#8217;re reluctant to go.<\/p>\n<p>While Planned Parenthood likes to brag about offering &#8220;choice,&#8221; the group apparently isn&#8217;t too enthused about women making an informed one. When it came to ultrasounds, Adair explained in her interview that although they were sometimes done at her clinic, \u201cWomen were not given the option of viewing the ultrasound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is an issue on which pro-lifers can help bring empowerment: Legislation has been passed in a number of states mandating that women seeking abortions be given the option to\u00a0look at<a title=\"Governor Walker signs \u2018ultrasound before abortion\u2019 legislation in Wisconsin\" href=\"\/news\/governor-walker-signs-ultrasound-before-abortion-legislation-in-wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0ultrasound images<\/a> and judge for themselves whether those claims about &#8220;a blob of cells&#8221; the size of a pencil tip really match up with reality.<\/p>\n<p>We can also push for laws ensuring that a pregnant woman is allowed to use whatever force is required <a title=\"SC Senate bill would extend right to lethal self-defense to pregnant women\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thestate.com\/2014\/04\/10\/3380458_sc-senate-bill-would-extend-right.html?sp=\/99\/132\/312\/169\/&amp;rh=1\" target=\"_blank\">to defend<\/a> her pre-born child from criminal violence. The need for this can be seen in the frequency with which women and the children they carry are <a title=\"Violence and Reproductive Health: Home\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/reproductivehealth\/violence\/\" target=\"_blank\">victims of homicide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we need to let moms in difficult situations known where they can turn to for support. That could be a local <a title=\"Care Net\" href=\"https:\/\/www.care-net.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">pregnancy care center<\/a> or online sites like <a title=\"StandUpGirl\" href=\"http:\/\/www.standupgirl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">StandUpGirl<\/a>,\u00a0 a place where women can share stories and learn from one another. Finally, we can point out that there is\u00a0<a title=\"Fewer Babies Available For Adoption By U.S. Parents\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/11\/17\/142344354\/fewer-babies-available-for-adoption-by-u-s-parents\" target=\"_blank\">a shortage<\/a> of adoptable infants in America and that many couples would be grateful to provide a loving home. Some, like\u00a0<a title=\" Angela &amp; Matt\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adoptimist.com\/adoption-parent-profile\/4033\" target=\"_blank\">Angela and Matt Bernier<\/a> have profiles you can view at <a title=\"Adoptimist\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adoptimist.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Adoptimist<\/a> and <a title=\"ParentProfiles\" href=\"http:\/\/www.parentprofiles.com\" target=\"_blank\">ParentProfiles<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>The abortion industry is happy to treat women like meat to be softened up. As pro-lifers, it\u2019s our goal to remind them of what they really are: human beings deserving who deserve better.
