It\u2019s said that laughter is the best medicine. For medical comedy star Mindy Kaling, there isn\u2019t much to laugh about when it comes to abortion.<\/p>\n

Previously known as Kelly Kapoor on NBC\u2019s The Office<\/a>, Kaling now plays Dr. Mindy Lahiri, an OB\/GYN on The Mindy Project<\/a>. During a recent interview, Kaling was asked by Stephen Colbert why she didn’t mention abortion<\/a> on her show. The actress seemed skeptical about abortion\u2019s comedic potential, contending that \u201cit\u2019s not a hilarious topic.\u201d<\/p>\n

That seems like a reasonable observation; after all, thoughts of a little girl<\/a> being forced through a suction catheter or dismembered with a set of forceps don’t usually appeal to decent human beings. Fans of Tucker Max<\/a>, on the other hand, just can’t seem to get enough of them.<\/p>\n

Pregnancy counseling, bro-choice style<\/i>.<\/p><\/div>\n

The author of I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell<\/em> and Sloppy Seconds<\/em>, Tucker has built a career<\/a> around having drunken sex and then branding his partners as \u201cslutty whores<\/a>.\u201d Naturally, this creates more than a few children, but Mr. Max has a simple method to keep his kids from becoming a headache: he kills them.<\/p>\n

Tucker describes this in \u201cTucker Max: Baby Killer<\/a>,\u201d a chapter of his self-referentially titled second best seller, Assholes Finish First<\/em>. He writes that, \u201c[d]ue to the potent combination of my sexual recklessness and the slutty nature of some of the girls I have slept with, I have accumulated enough stories and anecdotes about abortion that they could name a Planned Parenthood clinic after me.\u201d While an abortion habit surely isn’t cheap, Tucker boasts of writing it off on his taxes as a \u201cresearch expense.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just misogynistic celebrities who are getting help with their abortion tab: according to<\/a> a Government Accounting Office report released in September, at least 1036 Obamacare insurance plans are covering abortion<\/a>–a violation of both federal law and President Obama\u2019s 2009 pledge that \u201cunder our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

This news isn’t surprising given that President Obama has the most pro-abortion record of any White House occupant. Among his first acts was to suspend the Mexico City Policy<\/a>\u2013an executive order that prohibited foreign aid dollars from subsidizing abortion. He also lifted Bush-era executive orders designed to protect <\/a>pro-life healthcare workers.\u00a0 And, the president continues to defend funding for abortion giant Planned Parenthood<\/a> despite proof that its employees have been ready to help sex traffickers <\/a>and child abusers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While still in the Illinois state senate, Obama spoke and voted against legislation<\/a> \u00a0to protect children left alive after botched abortions. That probably explains why in 2013, US Attorney General Eric Holder couldn’t name<\/a> a single instance in which an abortionist had been prosecuted under the federal Born-Alive Infant Protection Act for killing a newborn. After all, it\u2019s certainly not because these killings<\/a> are unheard of. In fact, Live Action has recorded footage of abortion clinic staff promising to kill<\/a> infants who\u2019ve had the bad manners to survive.<\/p>\n

Nor has an effort been made to address coercion. There is evidence that a substantial number of abortions are only consented to under pressure<\/a>, with women being shot<\/a>, stabbed<\/a>, bludgeoned<\/a>, and burned<\/a> when they refuse. Multiple cases have also come to light in which predators have used abortion to hide evidence<\/a> of abuse. Oddly, the Obama Justice Department seems uninterested.<\/p>\n

Of course, President Obama doesn\u2019t push this agenda by himself; his allies on Capitol Hill are always ready to lend a hand. Some, like senators Kay Hagan<\/a>, Mary Landrieu<\/a>, and Mark Udell<\/a> continue to support Planned Parenthood in spite of representing states with strong pro-life constituencies. They\u2019ve also failed to get behind the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act–legislation that would outlaw most abortions after 20 weeks gestation. That’s in spite of evidence compiled by\u00a0Dr. Kawaljeet Anand at the University of Tennessee indicating that a pre-born child at this stage would suffer painfully<\/a> during an abortion.<\/p>\n

Most Americans aren\u2019t huge fans of abortion, and they\u2019re usually not happy with coercion, sexual abuse, or infanticide either. Unfortunately, some in Washington don\u2019t seem especially concerned about these issues. That\u2019s why it\u2019s crucial for citizens to find out where their elected officials stand on these issues and be ready to hold them to account. Unlike Stephen Colbert, pro-lifers know that there\u2019s nothing humorous about abortion. The consequences of betraying one\u2019s constituents shouldn\u2019t be hilarious either.
