The New York Times paid him tribute in a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/09\/26\/us\/26harrison.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">n obituary after his death in 2010 <\/a>at the age of 75. \u00a0The New York Times called him \u201ca defender of abortion rights&#8221; and painted him as an unselfish and committed\u00a0champion\u00a0of women.<\/p>\n<p>In 2006, Dr. Harrison appeared on Nightline,<a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/interview-with-an-abortionist\/\" target=\"_blank\"> interviewed by reporter Martin Bashir.<\/a> \u00a0Bashir asked him a series of questions which the abortionist answered on the air.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Harrison:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My conscience calls me to do abortions because I consider the mother\u2019s life much, much more important than that tiny little blob of tissue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Martin Bashir, however, does not let that fly. Apparently, he knows the facts of fetal development\u00a0and in a move rather atypical for the usually abortion supportive media, he says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s interesting you say it\u2019s a blob of tissue, but as you know after just 21 days, the heart is pumping blood. At 42 days, the child has recordable brain waves. And you are, every day, relentlessly terminating that life, and you\u2019re happy with that?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The abortionist replies:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Am I happy with it? No, but I\u2019m not distressed about it. I would be a lot more distressed if I could not terminate that life for the patient that that life is going to be a disaster for.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So Harrison, when challenged, \u00a0goes from saying the baby is \u201ca tiny little blob of tissue,\u201dto admitting that abortion terminates a life.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison would again make this admission, in 2007, in his essay \u00a0entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/abortionist-is-aware-abortion-ends-a-life\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cWhy I provide abortions.\u201d<\/a> He would say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>No one, neither the patient receiving an abortion, nor the person doing the abortion, is ever, at anytime, unaware that they are ending a life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Back to the interview on Nightline, Harrison tells Martin Bashir:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I\u2019ve had lots of patients who come in for second, third, fourth, fifth, even one who had nine abortions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bashir then asks:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Is that really appropriate?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Harrison replies:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If she needs nine abortions, yeah.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One wonders what kind of birth control a woman who \u201cneeds nine abortions\u201d is using. Perhaps Dr. Harrison himself gives the answer:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Whether you have an abortion or not is relatively minor. Basically, abortion is a method of birth control. You know, it\u2019s not the best method of birth control. But all it does is stop the birth of a baby that a woman doesn\u2019t want at a time she doesn\u2019t want it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So it may seem that\u00a0some\u00a0of the women who come to Harrison, particularly those who have multiple\u00a0abortions, are in fact using\u00a0abortion as their sole (or at least primary) method of birth control. In <a href=\"\/news\/inside-an-abortion-clinic-with-the-los-angeles-times\/\" target=\"_blank\">another Live Action article,<\/a> you can read about some of the reasons given by women who went to Harrison for abortions, <a href=\"\/news\/inside-an-abortion-clinic-with-the-los-angeles-times\/\" target=\"_blank\">including one who aborted because she thought her wedding dress would not fit &#8220;with a baby in there.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Harrison goes on to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I\u2019ve had one of the most emotionally satisfying careers that I can imagine anyone having. I can\u2019t tell you how satisfying it is, when two weeks after a young woman has come in distraught and thinking that her life is ruined, and she comes back two \u2013 two weeks after the abortion and she is a new woman. She\u2019s been given her life back.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apparently, ripping apart babies <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/abortion-at-9-weeks-pictures\/\" target=\"_blank\">like these ones, who were aborted at nine weeks,\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>was emotionally satisfying to Harrison in the years he performed abortions.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the\u00a0interview goes as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bashir: And for her to be born again, you\u2019ve had to kill the fetus.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison: Uh-huh. That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p>Bashir<strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>And that\u2019s a fair exchange?<\/p>\n<p>Harrison:That\u2019s a fair exchange.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The lives of unborn babies were cheap and expendable to Dr. Harrison. His words show how callous he had become after doing abortions for years.
