Democratic Party Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz says it\u2019s \u201csenseless and wrong<\/a>\u201d to punish men who use violence or trickery to make their partners abort.<\/p>\n

Following a high-profile case in which a Florida man, John Andrew Welden, slipped his girlfriend the abortion pill, the Florida legislature passed a bill criminalizing such behavior. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a so-called feminist, attacked the legislation as a waste of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorida Republican lawmakers have wasted taxpayers time and money by passing these extreme bills that further limit women\u2019s reproductive rights. It is senseless and it\u2019s wrong,\u201d said Wasserman Schultz.<\/p>\n

Since when did being \u201cpro-choice\u201d include supporting the \u201cchoice\u201d of men to force an abortion upon unwilling women?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

If Wasserman Schultz is all about women\u2019s rights, maybe she should listen to the voices of women like Remee Lee, John Andrew Welden\u2019s former girlfriend. Andrew pleaded with Remee to abort, but she stood firm in her decision to keep the baby. According to the AP<\/a>, \u201cWelden forged his father\u2019s signature on a prescription for Cytotec and relabeled a pill bottle as \u2018Amoxicillin.\u2019 Cytotec, known also as misoprostol, is a drug used to induce labor.\u201d Remee started bleeding and went to the hospital \u2013 where she learned that Andrew had killed her child.<\/p>\n

How can Wasserman Schultz thumb her nose at this story? The crime John Andrew Welden committed against Remee Lee and her unborn child seems far more serious than misuse of a drug or even simple assault. How is a man forcing a woman to have an abortion different from forcing a woman to have sex with him?<\/p>\n

People with \u201csense\u201d understand that forced abortions are a form of domestic violence and should be prosecuted as such. The fact that this needs to be spelled out for a so-called feminist is scary. Someone should explain to Wasserman Schultz that \u201creproductive rights\u201d do not extend to pregnant women\u2019s abusive boyfriends.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
