{"id":49610,"date":"2014-05-14T12:04:22","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T16:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=49610"},"modified":"2014-05-22T05:47:00","modified_gmt":"2014-05-22T09:47:00","slug":"alabama-doctor-indicted-for-selling-misbranded-iuds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/alabama-doctor-indicted-for-selling-misbranded-iuds\/","title":{"rendered":"Alabama doctor indicted for selling misbranded IUDs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>An Alabama doctor linked to an abortion center\u00a0was indicted April 24 by a federal grand jury for healthcare fraud and for introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/abortiondocs.org\/clinic\/abortionist\/1060\/yashica-lynnette-robinson-white\/\">Dr. Yashica Robinson-White<\/a> has been charged with fraudulently billing Medicaid over $60,000 between November 2010 and April 2012 for misbranded intrauterine devices, or IUDs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao\/alm\/press\/2014\/2014_05_02_robinson-white.html\">According to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the District of Middle Alabama<\/a>, the indictment charges Robinson-White with purchasing IUDs\u2014which can cause very <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2013\/04\/25\/president-obama-wants-us-to-pay-for-abortion-causing-devices\/\">early abortions<\/a>\u2014that were made outside the U.S. and failing to disclose this to Medicaid.\u00a0 Because these IUDs weren\u2019t labeled in English, they are considered misbranded drugs under the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.\u00a0 They were cheaper than lawful IUDs.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Medicaid Program is designed to help those families and women in need,\u201d U.S. Attorney George L. Beck, Jr. said.\u00a0 \u201cBut when Medicaid pays for those services, it expects that the patients will receive legitimate, legal drugs and products. When a doctor uses unapproved drugs and products, the doctor interferes with the ability of the Alabama Medicaid Agency to deliver quality health care to the public. This office will continue to investigate and prosecute health care fraud of this kind aggressively and thoroughly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The six-count indictment charges Robinson-White with committing this fraud through her ob-gyn practice, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alabamawomenswellnesscenter.com\/\">Alabama\u2019s Women\u2019s Wellness Center<\/a>.\u00a0 Robinson-White is also linked to the <a href=\"http:\/\/abortiondocs.org\/clinic\/surgical\/8\/\">Alabama Women\u2019s Center for Reproductive Alternatives<\/a> in Huntsville. The Alabama Women\u2019s Center for Reproductive Alternatives has a long history of problems with the health department, including deficiency reports revealing, among other issues, the abortion facility\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/adphnotes.state.al.us\/hcfweb.nsf\/1b480cf04b92be2786256d2600704885\/7bf57ecd91a4947086257b1a006c3132\/$FILE\/alabama%20women's%20center%20for%20rep%2001092013.pdf\">failure to clean tables between abortions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Each count of the health care fraud scheme carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.\u00a0 The misbranding count carries a maximum punishment of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>The abortion industry has a long history of Medicaid fraud and sketchy finances.\u00a0 Planned Parenthood recently <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/news\/articles\/SB10001424127887323455104579016951262314732\">settled a federal suit<\/a> claiming some of its Texas clinics fraudulently billed Medicaid between 2003 and 2009.\u00a0 Former Planned Parenthood director Sue Thayer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/suzy-b-blog\/former-planned-parenthood-manager-joins-pro-life-movement\">blew the whistle<\/a> on Planned Parenthood\u2019s Iowa affiliate and their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alliancedefendingfreedom.org\/News\/PRDetail\/8054\">misuse of money<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Alabama doctor linked to an abortion center\u00a0was indicted April 24 by a federal grand jury for healthcare fraud and for introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce.\u00a0 Dr. Yashica Robinson-White has been charged with fraudulently billing Medicaid over $60,000 between November 2010 and April 2012 for misbranded intrauterine devices, or IUDs.
