In a recent episode of\u00a0Parenthood,\u00a0<\/em>Drew (who is now in college at Berkeley) encounters his ex-girlfriend – the one who aborted his child last season after he told her that he would be there for her and the baby, and that she didn’t need to go through with it.<\/p>\n

In the episode, Drew, a high school senior who is madly in love with his girlfriend, Amy, is shocked by the news that Amy has unexpectedly become pregnant. Amy\u2019s attitude throughout the episode is one of despair and stress. Drew, in spite of being confused and overwhelmed, remains supportive and loving of Amy while simultaneously developing an unspoken affection for his child.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Drew tells Amy that he wants to support her no matter what she decides to do about the pregnancy. He repeatedly insists that he loves her enough to support their new family regardless of hardships that may come their way. However, Amy becomes like a stone wall. Lyrics in the background aptly describe her demeanor:\u00a0[she is] colder than a wave in the Arctic Ocean<\/em>. A baby, she believes, will destroy her life.<\/p>\n

Besides her confused and vulnerable boyfriend, the only resource she goes to for help is the local Planned Parenthood center. During her consultation with Planned Parenthood, adoption and parenting are coldly mentioned as options, but, as in reality, the abortion-committer\u00a0does not elaborate on those options.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Amy shows up at Drew’s dorm room door unexpectedly, after leaving Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she had gone after high school. Unaware that Amy doesn’t plan to go back to Tufts because of how lonely she later tells him she has been there (that is not discussed until a later episode), he confides in her that he has missed her since they parted ways after high school and the abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drew: I’m sad you’re leaving.<\/p>\n

Amy: I missed you, Drew.<\/p>\n

Drew: Yeah.<\/p>\n

Amy: And I was thinking about it tonight. Just, I don’t know, watching you with all your friends, you’re just such an amazing guy and I always have so much fun with you. I feel really horrible about the way things ended between us.<\/p>\n

Drew: Yeah, it was bad. You know, I get it though. I do.<\/p>\n

Amy: I’m really sorry, Drew. You were there for me<\/strong>, and it’s taken me a ridiculously long time to figure that out. But I have now. And I wish I could take it all back. Have a do-over. But I can’t, so, will you forgive me?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drew: Yeah, yeah. I forgive you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
