Sebelius<\/i>. Conestoga Wood Specialties is a business owned by the Hahn family (\u201cthe Petitioners\u201d), a Mennonite Christian family who believe that paying for abortion-inducing drugs would be a violation of their religious convictions. They chose to file a lawsuit when Obama\u2019s HHS Mandate required them to provide insurance covering abortion-inducing drugs to their employees.<\/p>\n<p>The brief <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/files\/ConestogaMeritsBrief.pdf\">explains<\/a> that the \u201cHahns consider it an abortion to prevent the implantation of a human embryo into its mother\u2019s uterus after its fertilization.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/files\/ConestogaMeritsBrief.pdf\">According<\/a> to the brief:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Mandate substantially burdens Petitioners\u2019 religious exercise. It directly commands Petitioners to buy a healthcare policy that funds abortifacients in conflict with their religious beliefs regarding the destruction of human life. It also imposes ruinous fines and authorizes lawsuits if Petitioners fail to surrender and comply.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The brief <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/files\/ConestogaMeritsBrief.pdf\">explains<\/a> that for-profit corporations should also have a right to exercise the religious beliefs of the business owners:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When the government uses substantial pressure to coerce a family business to act contrary to its owners\u2019 religious beliefs, it burdens the free exercise of religion regardless of the business\u2019 corporate form.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/News\/PRDetail\/8451\">According to Attorney Randall Wegner<\/a>, co-counsel on the case from Independence Law Center:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If the government can force Americans to violate their deepest, most heartfelt convictions, there\u2019s no stopping what government can do.
