Many sources comment as to how Ms. Davis did not mention abortion in her 15-minute speech in which she announced her candidacy. Wayne Slater, though, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/columnists\/wayne-slater\/20131003-now-that-shes-running-davis-will-have-to-talk-about-abortion.ece\">writing<\/a> for the DallasNews, a project of\u00a0<em>The Dallas Star News<\/em>, declares that &#8220;[n]ow that she&#8217;s running, Davis will have to talk about abortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-37376\" style=\"margin-left: 15px; margin-top: 6px; margin-bottom: 6px;\" alt=\"Wendy Davis\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-28-at-6.45.11-PM-300x151.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-28-at-6.45.11-PM-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-28-at-6.45.11-PM.png 510w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Indeed. Slater has this to say about the omission:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But the one thing she didn\u2019t talk about \u2014 the very thing that has made her suddenly a viable statewide candidate \u2014 was conspicuously absent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Slater closes his piece with this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Davis\u2019 political advisers would prefer that she talk about anything but abortion. But that\u2019s the issue that catapulted her to political celebrity.<\/p>\n<p>Whether in the context of health care or women\u2019s rights or opposition to intrusive government, she\u2019ll have to talk about it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps Davis will want to hide from discussing abortion. After all, she is running for governor in a conservative, pro-life state, where a majority do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2013\/06\/20\/uttt-poll-texans-favor-ban-late-term-abortions\/\">not<\/a> share her view on the 20-week abortion ban, which she filibustered in an attempt to defeat.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>And perhaps Davis&#8217;s political advisers would prefer that she not discuss abortion because of these factors. To ignore the issue, though, especially when it &#8220;catapulted&#8221; her to her status, is disingenuous and unfair to the voters of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-lifers in Texas know better than to let Wendy Davis get away with straying from abortion. Lauren&#8217;s piece mentions that Texas Right to Life has installed a &#8220;Truth Team,&#8221; and mainstream as well as pro-life news outlets are reporting on the organization&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2013\/10\/03\/texas-right-to-life-slams-abortion-activist-wendy-davis-in-new-hard-hitting-ad\/\">radio ad<\/a> highlighting Davis&#8217;s extreme position on abortion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-41670\" style=\"margin-left: 15px; margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px;\" alt=\"220px-Abbott_(cropped)\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/220px-Abbott_cropped.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"229\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wendy Davis may revel in her underdog status, but the state of Texas has not elected a Democratic governor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/state-politics\/20131005-suburban-women-a-key-target-for-wendy-davis-governor-campaign.ece\">since<\/a> Ann Richards in 1990. <em><\/em>This was the last race in which a Democrat won the majority of female voters for that state.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Davis&#8217;s opponent, <a href=\"\/news\/governor-rick-perry-out-for-another-term-pro-life-attorney-general-greg-abbott-to-run\/\">Greg Abbott<\/a>, has a strong pro-life record. The heart of the matter is that Wendy Davis has a strong, even radical pro-abortion position. And on this issue, she is out of touch with the people of the state she would be representing.
