The Alabama Department of Public Health\u2019s 2012 abortion statistics reveal that of the 9,076 abortions<\/a> committed in Alabama last year, 1,106<\/a> were performed on non-Alabama residents.<\/p>\n

The health department numbers don\u2019t indicate how many out of state abortions occurred at each of Alabama\u2019s five legally operating abortion facilities, but nearly 40%<\/a> of all abortions in Alabama occurred at the West Alabama Women\u2019s Center in Tuscaloosa.\u00a0 The West Alabama Women\u2019s Center\u2019s lone abortionist, Louis Payne<\/a>, committed an astounding 3,503 abortions in 2012.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

When the troubled Jackson, Mississippi abortion center closes<\/a>, it will be easier for the West Alabama Women\u2019s Center to target women throughout Mississippi, not just women in eastern Mississippi who live closer to Tuscaloosa than Jackson.<\/p>\n

The health department\u2019s abortion statistics also reveal that New Woman All Women, the Birmingham abortion center infamous for its 76-page deficiency report<\/a> and refusal to follow the health department\u2019s orders to close<\/a>, performed 470 abortions in 2012.<\/p>\n

Last month, following a judge\u2019s order that New Woman All Women permanently stop performing abortions without a license, an attorney for abortionist Bruce Norman announced that he would file a motion<\/a> to keep the facility open.\u00a0 Norman\u2019s attorney Scott Morro said that this would \u201cclear up some of the fuzzy math\u201d surrounding the number of abortions New Woman All Women was committing.<\/p>\n

A doctor in Alabama can legally perform fewer than 30 abortions per month without an abortion provider license. If Norman was committing all of the abortions at New Woman All Women regularly and steadily, it was at a rate of 39 a month.\u00a0 He previously testified<\/a> that he performed 14 or fewer abortions on one day at the clinic “every other week.”<\/p>\n

As 2013\u2014a year of sweeping pro-life victories\u2014continues, pro-lifers should pray for the closure of the West Alabama Women\u2019s Center, Alabama\u2019s busiest abortion facility.\u00a0 They should also pray that New Woman All Women remains closed, especially in light of its concerning 2012 abortion numbers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
