New York City\u2019s latest attempt to drop their teen pregnancy rate is more likely to raise their abortion rate, which is already at the top with 40% of pregnancies ending in abortion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36855 alignright\" style=\"margin-top: 15px; margin-bottom: 15px;\" alt=\"NY poster2\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/NY-poster2.png\" width=\"270\" height=\"283\" \/>But New York\u2019s political team is more concerned with whether or not children <a href=\"http:\/\/tv.msnbc.com\/2013\/06\/11\/new-york-city-defends-soda-ban-in-appeals-court\/\">drink soda<\/a>, than they are with whether or not teens get abortions without parental consent. In fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424127887324563004578521330639258450.html\">Gov. Cuomo<\/a> is actually working diligently to increase access to dangerous late-term abortions in the state. It\u2019s no surprise New York would want to run an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/hra\/html\/programs\/teen_pregnancy_campaign.shtml\">ad campaign<\/a> that holds to power to push pregnant teens towards abortion rather than steer teenagers away from sex in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Take the slogans for example. Cleverly placed alongside photographs of adorable but sad babies and toddlers, they have a collective voice that shouts, \u201cYou will never succeed at life or at being a mom! Abort now, before you have a baby, go broke, and raise a fatherless child who hates you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One ad shows a little girl with the caption, \u201cHonestly Mom\u2026 Chance are he won\u2019t stay with you? What happens to me?\u201d It asks<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36856 alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 15px; \" alt=\"NY poster3\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/NY-poster3.png\" width=\"270\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>if the teen mom is ready to raise a child by herself. Not only does it sell guys short, but it leaves the young mom feeling utterly alone and as though she can\u2019t trust a person whom she may very well be able to trust. It validates many of her fears rather than alerting her to the fact that substantial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.covenanthouse.org\/homeless-youth-programs\/mother-child-teenage-pregnancy-help\">help is available<\/a> and accessible.<\/p>\n<p>Another says, \u201cGot a good job? I cost thousands of dollars a year.\u201d As in, if you aren\u2019t making tons of money, which most teens aren\u2019t, your baby isn\u2019t worth it because money is more important than a child\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>A third shows a little boy crying with the words, \u201cI\u2019m twice as likely not to graduate high school because you had me as a teen.\u201d This clearly tells teen moms that their babies\u2019 lives are ruined before they are even born. It offers no help or hope for making a great life for their children.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36854 alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 15px;\" alt=\"NY poster\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/NY-poster.png\" width=\"270\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And finally, another ad says, \u201cDad you\u2019ll be paying to support me for the next twenty years.\u201d Again, babies aren\u2019t worth it, they take all of your money that you\u2019d rather be spending on video games and new televisions.<\/p>\n<p>These ads don\u2019t teach teenagers that abstinence is the answer to keep from becoming a teen mom. They don\u2019t say that premarital sex isn\u2019t worth it because it will make it more difficult, though not impossible, to achieve your dreams. And this ad won\u2019t be what teenagers are thinking about during their hormone driven make out session that gets out of control. This ad campaign says that our children aren\u2019t worth our love, our time, our money. It depicts a lifetime of suffering for everyone involved if a teen girl chooses life for her child. Any young girl considering abortion, would likely be pushed in that direction by these ads. So once again, rather than helping her and her baby, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/bronx\/bronx-councilwoman-slams-bloomberg-teen-pregnancy-ads-article-1.1297703\">society is shunning<\/a> them and telling her that her baby\u2019s life isn\u2019t one worth living.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If there\u2019s anything that scared pregnant teens don\u2019t need, it\u2019s to be shamed by advertisements plastered all over their city of babies telling their moms that they shouldn\u2019t have them.
