{"id":35706,"date":"2013-05-29T15:00:56","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T19:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=35706"},"modified":"2016-09-16T18:55:28","modified_gmt":"2016-09-16T22:55:28","slug":"12-out-of-16-abortion-clinics-flagged-for-health-violations-in-pro-choice-paradise-maryland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/12-out-of-16-abortion-clinics-flagged-for-health-violations-in-pro-choice-paradise-maryland\/","title":{"rendered":"12 out of 16 abortion clinics flagged for health violations in pro-choice paradise Maryland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><a href=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Maryland-quarter.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-35707\" alt=\"Maryland-quarter\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Maryland-quarter-300x296.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Maryland-quarter-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Maryland-quarter.jpg 330w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>In yet another blow to Big Abortion\u2019s PR efforts, Breitbart <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Government\/2013\/05\/28\/12-of-16-Maryland-Abortion-Facilities-Found-With-State-Health-Violations\">reports<\/a> that 12 out of 16 Maryland abortion clinics inspected by the state\u2019s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene have been found to be in violation of state health standards:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>LifeSiteNews <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/12-of-16-maryland-abortion-clinics-found-violating-safety-regulations?utm_source=LifeSiteNews.com+Daily+Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=70a33c1ac5-LifeSiteNews_com_US_Full_Text_05_27_2013&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_0caba610ac-70a33c1ac5-397453289\">reports<\/a> that Joshua Sharfstein, secretary of the Maryland DOH, said one of the most common violations discovered was the \u201cfailure to maintain a sanitary environment at all times and to consistently use chemical indicator strips in sterilized equipment packing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, violations included \u201cfailure to obtain information about the professional credentials of physicians on staff from the National Practitioner Data Bank,\u201d and \u201cfailure to include a discharge diagnosis in the medical record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state suspended the licenses of four of the abortion clinics, owned by Associates in OB\/GYN, which had been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/four-maryland-abortion-clinic-licenses-suspended-woman-died-at-one-clinic\">temporarily suspended<\/a> just two months earlier for violations, and then reopened [\u2026]<\/p>\n<p>While all three Planned Parenthood abortion facilities in the state were found with some relatively minor violations, at one facility a staff member was not certified in basic life support or trained in emergency transfer of patients to the hospital or the administration of IV sedation medications.<\/p>\n<p>At the Maryland abortion clinic of late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, state investigators discovered eight pages of violations, including a registered nurse whose license had expired, nurses without proper training in administering drugs, and failure to train staff in emergency transfer of patients to the hospital.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ever notice how it\u2019s never liberals\u2019 fault when their ideas don\u2019t work as advertised? There\u2019s always an excuse &#8211; the right people weren\u2019t implementing it, there wasn\u2019t enough money, right-wingers threw a monkey wrench in the works. Well, that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicsdaily.com\/2011\/01\/23\/kermit-gosnells-pro-choice-enablers-how-clinics-become-death-t\/?a_dgi=aolshare_twitter\">didn&#8217;t fly with Kermit Gosnell<\/a>, and it won\u2019t fly here.<\/p>\n<p>NARAL <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/government-and-you\/state-governments\/state-profiles\/maryland.html\">gives<\/a> Maryland an A on abortion matters. Democrats control the governor\u2019s office and <a href=\"http:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/wiki\/index.php\/Ballotpedia:Who_Runs_the_States,_Maryland\">both chambers<\/a> of the legislature (though NARAL considers the House of Delegates \u201cmixed-choice\u201d). They\u2019ve got the <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/pf\/features\/lists\/total_taxes\/income.html\">second-highest<\/a> personal income tax in the country. They <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/2012-election\/map\/#\/President\/2012\/MD\">chose<\/a> Barack Obama over Mitt Romney 61.7% to 36.6% in 2012. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governing.com\/blogs\/politics\/gov-how-weak-gop-republican-party-blue-states.html\">recent piece<\/a> in <em>Governing<\/em> magazine notes that Maryland\u2019s \u201cnever been seriously targeted by GOP presidential strategists,\u201d and the state Republican Party is \u201cnot in good shape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, it\u2019s exactly the sort of liberal paradise where pro-choicers have unfettered reign to do exactly as they see fit &#8211; a shining example of \u201csafe, quality reproductive care.\u201d If abortion providers and regulators really are all about the women and their health, then how do the clinics get this bad to begin with? Who\u2019s gonna take the fall this time? (Oh, and speaking of critically evaluating results, we <a href=\"http:\/\/kff.org\/womens-health-policy\/state-indicator\/abortion-rate\/\">can&#8217;t compare<\/a> Maryland\u2019s abortion rate to the rest of the country because they don\u2019t report adequate data to the Center for Disease Control.)<\/p>\n<p>Maybe, just maybe, the problem isn\u2019t a few bad apples or anti-choice meddling. Maybe a business whose primary function is killing children for convenience is inherently untrustworthy when it comes to anything resembling actual health. Maybe politicians are naturally disinclined to police interest groups they depend on.
