According to Mayday&#8217;s Executive Director, Live Raisner, gas stations are the hubs of rural communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She told the Lantern:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Many rural counties in West Virginia and Kentucky have few or no OB-GYN providers. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Some have lost their only hospitals, their only clinics. So routine education and preventative reproductive health information is much harder to access through traditional medical channels. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>And so that\u2019s why we decided to advertise at gas stations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Raisner made another statement which \u2014 given the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-skyrocketing-63-percent-abortion-pill\/\">most abortions are now actually done by pill<\/a> \u2014 seems odd:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>We heard this sobering statistic that only 10% of Americans even knew what abortion pills were. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>And with clinics closed, reproductive options became very limited for women across the United States. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>We knew that a massive education campaign needed to be executed to inform people that they still have options.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But is this really an &#8220;education campaign&#8221; or is it a marketing strategy for abortion?<\/p>\n<p>Mayday has been involved in other billboard campaigns, including these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>July 2022<\/strong>: Mayday Health <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-billboards-mississippi-rare-cases\/\">erected billboards in Mississippi<\/a>, where abortion is restricted. At that time, Raisner told the media, &#8220;Abortion pills have been approved by the FDA for decades. They\u2019re safe. They\u2019re effective through the end of the first trimester. And hardly anyone knows about them.&#8221; (Apparently, three years later, they&#8217;re still making similar claims.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>March 2023<\/strong>: Mayday placed <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-company-mobile-billboards\/\">mobile billboard trucks<\/a> in 14 states restricting abortion, stating, &#8220;We wish that everybody could just get these medications as easily as you can get Tylenol or Viagra in this country. Where there\u2019s a will, there\u2019s a way.\u201d (Read more on the Tylenol\/Viagra comparison <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-abortion-pill-safer-tylenol-viagra\/\">here<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 2025<\/strong>: Mayday <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/mayday-health-abortion-pill-indy500\/\">flew a banner over the Indy 500<\/a> advertising &#8220;ABORTION PILLS BY MAIL&#8221; in all caps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>August 2025<\/strong>: The group has placed a &#8220;mifepristone and misoprostol&#8221; ad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DNlMYY1uD8j\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">on a boat touring the Gulf of Mexico<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Background:<\/h2>\n<p>Mayday Health states on its website:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Our mission is to share information on how to access safe abortion pills and gender-affirming care in any state. We hope to empower people to make their own informed decision about their own bodies. Our information comes from top clinicians, lawyers and health experts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/22\/22A902\/263491\/20230414103618762_Final%20Alliance%20Appendix.pdf\">citation<\/a> in the <em>Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA<\/em>\u00a0abortion-pill related court documents&#8230; states, &#8220;Mayday Health&#8230; focuses on those who live in states with abortion bans, giving users step-by-step instructions on how to set up temporary addresses in an abortion permissive state and forward the mail into the banned state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The website contains a &#8220;quick exit&#8221; button, as previously reported by Live Action News:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>MayDayHealth, which recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-company-mobile-billboards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">erected<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-billboards-mississippi-rare-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion billboards<\/a>\u00a0promoting \u201cabortion options\u201d in states that restrict abortion, has also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayday.health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">implemented<\/a> the cache erasing tab, redirecting the browsers of users to the <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WeatherChannel<\/a>\u00a0when clicked. MayDay is one of the few that published the quick exit tab\u00a0when their website\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220624144903\/https:\/\/mayday.health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went live online<\/a>\u00a0June of 2022.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;health education&#8221; offered by Mayday is featured on the home page:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_336534\" style=\"width: 778px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-336534\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-336534\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-Mayday-Health-quick-exit-home-page.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-Mayday-Health-quick-exit-home-page.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-Mayday-Health-quick-exit-home-page-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-Mayday-Health-quick-exit-home-page-700x362.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-Mayday-Health-quick-exit-home-page-768x397.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-Mayday-Health-quick-exit-home-page-500x258.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-336534\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot: Mayday Health home page (accessed 8\/20\/25)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On its website, Mayday directs users to just one place under its &#8220;state by state guide to abortion pills&#8221; and its &#8220;Abortion pill FAQs&#8221; dropdown indicators: online abortion pill referral website Plan C.<\/p>\n<p>Why does this matter?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plan C tells women that they can &#8216;safely&#8217; take abortion pills <em>after<\/em> 13-14 weeks gestation.<\/strong> &#8220;Abortion pills are usually taken in the first 13-14 weeks of pregnancy. Many providers stick to a 12-week guideline, which is what the World Health Organization recommends. We know people safely take abortion pills later in pregnancy,&#8221; Plan C claims. The site says &#8220;how people take abortion pills after 12 weeks&#8230; is different from how they take them before 12 weeks,&#8221; and says, &#8220;Taking pills later in pregnancy can be more painful and might not work as well,&#8221; along with the fact that &#8220;the risk of complications goes up as the pregnancy continues.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plan C says the abortion pill is &#8220;very safe&#8221; while warning about the so-called pro-life &#8220;scams.&#8221;<\/strong> The site directs users to a fact sheet from the pro-abortion group ANSIRH about the abortion pill&#8217;s alleged safety, and warns users not to fall for what it refers to as &#8220;scams&#8221; \u2014 &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/doctors-miscarriages-hormone-scorned-abortion-pill-reversal\/\">abortion pill &#8216;reversal&#8217;<\/a>&#8221; (Plan C claims an abortion can&#8217;t be &#8220;reversed&#8221;) and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-tell-truth-pregnancy-centers-media-says\/\">pregnancy centers<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mayday founders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2024\/05\/25\/hunterbrook-media-sam-koppelman-journalism-00158129\">Sam Koppelman and Nathaniel Horwitz<\/a>\u00a0also reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/news\/annals-of-communications\/is-hunterbrook-media-a-news-outlet-or-a-hedge-fund\">founded<\/a> Hunterbrook Media and Hunterbrook Capital. A reporter who looked into the two founders said the men have &#8220;a pretty ridiculous network&#8221;; one of Hunterbook&#8217;s advisers, according to the New Yorker, is Paul Steiger, the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/propublicas-pulitzer-award-poor-journalism-preferred-agenda\/\">ProPublica<\/a>, which has won a Pulitzer for its dishonest narratives alleging that state pro-life laws are to blame for women&#8217;s deaths.<\/p>\n<h2>The Bottom Line:<\/h2>\n<p>Women deserve real health care and real support for unexpected pregnancies. The abortion pill is portrayed as safe, yet <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/research-ireland-12-er-abortion-pill\/\">research<\/a> has shown that it <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-nearly-11-serious-adverse-abortion-pill\/\">may be much more dangerous<\/a> than what is currently stated by the FDA.
