The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegapediatrics.com\/quintuplets-raising-five-newborns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">odds<\/a> of naturally conceiving quintuplets, as Troia reportedly did, are incredibly rare \u2014\u00a0just one in 55 million.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s surreal, scary at the same time, because it&#8217;s zero to five, immediate,&#8221; Troia, who is a single mom, told <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/GMA\/Family\/woman-quadruplet-1st-time-mom-quintuplets\/story?id=124680173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s an instant family, but it&#8217;s beautiful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She described having a &#8220;great&#8221; pregnancy before giving birth to the babies at 28 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t have any nausea, vomiting, cravings, anything like that. I didn&#8217;t have any swelling. So I was really lucky,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<h3>Pressured to Abort<\/h3>\n<p>Despite that, she told <a href=\"https:\/\/kvia.com\/for\/2025\/07\/30\/miracles-multiplied-mother-of-rare-set-of-quintuplets-sits-down-with-abc-7s-marcel-clarke-to-discuss-her-journey-as-a-new-mom-of-five\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KVIA<\/a> that things weren&#8217;t all smooth sailing, as she faced pressure to abort once doctors learned she was carrying five babies. That pressure \u2014 which came from friends, family, and medical professionals \u2014\u00a0even forced her to find a new doctor when her original OB\/GYN refused to treat her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got a lot of comments that I should think about reducing,\u201d she recalled. \u201cThe risks of actually having them all&#8230; even my provider didn\u2019t agree with keeping five. They dropped me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Aaron Poole, an OB-GYN and maternal-fetal medicine specialist with HCA Healthcare&#8217;s Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, said that Troia&#8217;s children were the first quintuplets to ever be born at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Poole advocated for Troia after her previous physician refused to help her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, it\u2019s always really important to be an advocate for the patient,\u201d Dr. Poole said. \u201cWith teamwork, medication, and close observation, I believed we could get to the finish line and have five healthy babies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I always feel like too that God has a place in what happens,&#8221; he added. &#8220;So I think in just doing my best and seeing what can happen with that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>A Generational Blessing<\/h3>\n<p>Though she is now raising five babies, Troia is no stranger to multiples; a quadruplet herself, she grew up alongside her brothers Joseph, Matthew, and Thomas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;To me, the normal is multiples, you know, because I don&#8217;t obviously know any different, but it was nice growing up and always having a sibling there,&#8221; she explained.<\/p>\n<p>She also noted that she now feels a special connection to her mother, who has passed away. Raising multiples gives her a first-hand look at what her mother must have experienced in raising her and her brothers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My mom passed away 10 years ago, so I haven&#8217;t been able, you know, I can&#8217;t talk to her about it, but now, I get to see what it was for her, which I think is a beautiful thing,&#8221; said Troia.<\/p>\n<h2>The Bottom Line:<\/h2>\n<p>Three of the babies have since been discharged from the NICU, while two are still receiving care. Troia says that they all are doing well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re all doing great and they&#8217;re all growing,&#8221; she said. &#8220;You would never know that they were premature babies or quintuplets, because they&#8217;re doing so, so good.
