You decide if they justify career-ending punishment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8 An Aussie doctor has been found guilty of professional misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>Not for harming patients.<\/p>\n<p>But for posting Christian views, including memes &amp; satire from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheBabylonBee?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheBabylonBee<\/a>, on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, that can now cost you your medical licence in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Meet Dr Jereth Kok \ud83e\uddf5 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eGtnuLkhuh\">pic.twitter.com\/eGtnuLkhuh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kurt Mahlburg (@k_mahlburg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/k_mahlburg\/status\/1949682050941792313?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 28, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Many of the posts written by Kok were strongly pro-life; he described abortion as the &#8220;massacre of babies&#8221; and abortionists as &#8220;butchers&#8221; and &#8220;serial contract killers.&#8221; He specifically addressed this in his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailydeclaration.org.au\/2025\/07\/28\/dr-jereth-kok-guilty-of-professional-misconduct-for-social-media-posts-tribunal-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">testimony<\/a> to the tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that life and personhood begin at conception,\u201d he said. \u201cI abhor the way our society conceals the truth about abortion by using deceitful euphemisms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kok removed many of the posts the tribunal found offensive, but it didn&#8217;t matter. \u201cThe boundary between a doctor\u2019s personal and public profile can be blurred,\u201d the tribunal ruled. \u201cAs a doctor, you need to consider the effect of your public comments.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Why It Matters:<\/h2>\n<p>Kok was represented by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrla.org.au\/kok-regulated-professional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Human Rights Law Alliance<\/a> (HRLA), which noted that the actions of VCAT amount to a political witch hunt based on Kok&#8217;s personal beliefs. &#8220;Despite Dr Kok never receiving a complaint of discrimination or differential treatment from any of his patients, the Medical Board exercised emergency powers to investigate over ten years of his internet history and pick out potentially offensive comments,&#8221; the HRLA said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrla.org.au\/kok-regulated-professional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. &#8220;The investigation was conducted over 3 months without Dr Kok\u2019s knowledge and he was given a week to provide his defence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, this is a chilling threat against all pro-life doctors in Australia, who now know they can be barred from practicing medicine for speaking openly about their pro-life beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For Christian professionals \u2013 and indeed for any professional who holds views outside the progressive mainstream \u2013 the implications are serious,&#8221; the HRLA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrla.org.au\/online_satire_can_now_cost_you_your_medical_career\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. &#8220;This decision is disappointing to Dr Kok, who was suspended over six years ago and has lost his career. But the ramifications extend much further to all Australians, particularly those who work in a regulated profession.
