The jury deliberated for just two hours.<\/p>\n<p>Cranston killed 23-year-old Rebekah Byler in Sparta Township, Pennsylvania, in 2024, in her home. Byler was six months pregnant at the time of her murder, and her two other young children (ages three and two) were present at the time but were not physically harmed.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence pointing to Cranston&#8217;s conviction included &#8220;a piece of a glove found at the home containing Cranston\u2019s DNA; shoe prints and vehicle tire treads that matched Cranston\u2019s shoes and vehicle; and GPS data from Cranston\u2019s vehicle that placed him at the scene.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/shawn-cranston-sentenced-murder-pregnant-amish-woman\/\">reported<\/a> by CBS News, &#8220;On Monday, the judge sentenced the man to the mandatory life-without-parole sentence for the first-degree murder conviction, plus an additional sentence of life in prison&#8221; for the second-degree murder of Byler&#8217;s preborn baby.<\/p>\n<p>He is also <a href=\"https:\/\/amishamerica.com\/man-who-killed-pregnant-amish-woman-sentenced-to-two-life-terms\/\">required<\/a> to pay $20,000 in fees and prosecution costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"cbsNewsVideo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/video\/man-sentenced-to-life-in-prison-for-murdering-pregnant-amish-woman\/\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>The Backstory:<\/h2>\n<p>Byler was found dead in her home on February 26, 2024, in a gruesome crime that shocked the Amish community.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania State Police warrants from that time say that she was found with \u201c[a]n evident laceration\u2026 on the front side of [her] neck\u201d and \u201ca scalping type wound on her head.\u201d She also sustained a gunshot wound to the head and a knife wound to the throat.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2025\/07\/28\/shawn-cranston-sentenced-murdering-rebekah-byler-unborn-child\/85402425007\/\">Austin American-Statesman<\/a>, &#8220;Authorities accused Cranston of killing Byler after entering her home in an attempt to steal money from it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Byler&#8217;s husband <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/rebekah-byler-amish-woman-killed-pennsylvania-testimony-crime-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">later testified<\/a> that when he left for work that morning, his wife was hanging laundry out to dry.
