{"id":335114,"date":"2025-07-25T12:48:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T17:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=335114"},"modified":"2025-07-24T17:43:46","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T22:43:46","slug":"planned-parenthood-transitions-in-person-texas-telehealth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-transitions-in-person-texas-telehealth\/","title":{"rendered":"Planned Parenthood transitions from in-person visits to &#8216;telehealth&#8217; in Texas city"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Planned Parenthood has announced the closure of its brick-and-mortar facility in Tyler, Texas, with a plan to switch over completely to &#8216;telehealth&#8217; services.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Takeaways:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Planned Parenthood building in Tyler, Texas, closed its doors on July 17, 2025.<\/li>\n<li>The facility will be switching to &#8216;telehealth&#8217; services instead.<\/li>\n<li>Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-closures-restructuring-telehealth\/\">began to offer &#8216;telehealth&#8217; in all 49 of its affiliates<\/a> in 2022-23, and continues to expand it.<\/li>\n<li>Though the facility did not commit abortions, it referred women out-of-state for abortions and provided &#8216;gender-affirming care.&#8217; Live Action previously revealed that this &#8216;care&#8217; in some locations involved giving cross-sex hormones to minors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Details:<\/h2>\n<p>A statement from Planned Parenthood on July 17 announced the &#8220;decision to transition healthcare services in the Tyler area to telehealth via the Greater Texas Virtual Health Center and close our health center on Turtle Creek Drive for in-person appointments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-closures-restructuring-telehealth\/\">previously reported<\/a> by Live Action Research Fellow Carole Novielli, &#8220;Planned Parenthood\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/ec\/f4\/ecf43d92-fcd2-4d11-b299-e67b5c3ac394\/2024-ppfa-annualreport-c3-digital.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022-23<\/a> annual report acknowledged that <strong>ALL<\/strong> <strong>49 affiliates<\/strong> at that time had begun offering \u201ctelehealth\u201d services \u2014 and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/ec\/6d\/ec6da0d6-98e5-4278-8d11-99a5cba8e615\/2024-ppfa-annualreport-c3-digital.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023-24<\/a> it announced that &#8220;Virtual Health Centers (VHC) have been introduced at 23 Planned Parenthood affiliates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Novielli also noted:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.middlebury.edu\/college\/people\/caitlin-myers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\"><u><em>Caitlin Myers<\/em><\/u><\/a><em>, a professor of economics at Middlebury College&#8230; <\/em><em>claimed [] market changes, in addition to federal funding cuts and regulatory uncertainties, have created \u201cnew pressures on the older school, brick-and-mortar facilities\u201d which still maintain services for people \u201cfor whom telehealth abortion isn&#8217;t a good option&#8230;. And so it&#8217;s necessitated a lot of change for these facilities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Due to Texas law, Planned Parenthood facilities in the state do not commit abortions, though they are able to refer women for abortions out of state. The facility had also provided &#8216;gender-affirming care,&#8217; something it continues to advertise as a telehealth service.<\/p>\n<p>Though it is unclear if it serves minors, a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/undercover-investigation-hormones-planned-parenthood-easy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Action investigation<\/a> earlier this year revealed that many Planned Parenthood facilities across the nation <em>are<\/em> willing to provide cross-sex hormones to minors.<\/p>\n<h2>What We&#8217;re Hearing:<\/h2>\n<p>Local pro-lifers are praising the facility&#8217;s closure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a big victory,\u201d Joy Patterson, the women\u2019s pastor at CrossPointe Church in Tyler told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kltv.com\/2025\/07\/24\/east-texans-react-planned-parenthood-tyler-clinic-closing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KLTV<\/a>. \u201cEven though that particular office was not providing abortions in this area, it is our desire to see the organization itself not be a part of society in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis is a great thing for Tyler,\u201d said State Rep.
