Yesterday, Fox News reporter Ed Henry <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/fox-news-ed-henry-presses-jay-carney-for-obamas-response-to-kermit-gosnell-trial-abortion-legislation\/\">dared to ask<\/a> Press Secretary Jay Carney:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One other topic: there\u2019s a murder trial in Pennsylvania, that I know you know is getting a lot of attention, more attention, the media was not getting a lot of attention, Kermit Gosnell, this doctor who is accused of having, delivering some babies who were literally screaming and then beheading them. He\u2019s facing murder charges on that, it hasn\u2019t been decided yet obviously, since he\u2019s still on trial. Is the president following this at all, does the White House have any reaction to that kind of situation that is alleged?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Carney\u2019s answer?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I\u2019ll say two things: one, the president is aware of this; two, the president does not and cannot take a position on an ongoing trial, so I won\u2019t as well. Certainly, the things that you hear and read about this case are unsettling, but I can\u2019t comment further on an ongoing legal proceeding.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bull. Crap.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s peruse Memory Lane for a few \u201clegal proceedings,\u201d most of them \u201congoing,\u201d the president wasn\u2019t so reluctant to volunteer his thoughts on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>December 2012: On the same day as Adam Lanza\u2019s shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2012\/12\/14\/seo-obama-s-newtown-statement-full-transcript-video.html\">signaled<\/a> that the crime held immediate political ramifications: \u201cWe&#8217;re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.\u201d Since then, the president has taken to <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/obama-newtown-families-demands-gun-control-vote-233418776--abc-news-politics.html\">campaigning<\/a> for new gun-control measures before audiences of victims\u2019 families.<\/li>\n<li>July 2012: Obama first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/07\/20\/obama-aurora-shooting_n_1688982.html\">responded<\/a> to James Holmes\u2019 killing spree at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater with heartfelt, non-partisan remarks, but he soon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/07\/25\/obama-gun-control_n_1704246.html\">incorporated<\/a> the massacre into his push for his gun-control agenda.<\/li>\n<li>March 2012: Obama avoided making specific claims about the facts surrounding Florida man George Zimmerman\u2019s fatal shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin, but he did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/03\/23\/obama-trayvon-martin_n_1375083.html\">call<\/a> the event \u201ca tragedy,\u201d noting that \u201cif I had a son, he\u2019d look like Trayvon.&#8221; He also opined that \u201call of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen,\u201d suggesting that rather than a purely criminal matter, perhaps there was some deficiency in \u201cthe laws and the context for what happened\u201d that needed to be addressed.<\/li>\n<li>December 2010: Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/12\/27\/AR2010122704579.html\">called<\/a> Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate them for giving football star and convicted dog killer Michael Vick \u201ca fair second chance,\u201d because \u201cit\u2019s never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail.\u201d While condemning Vick\u2019s crimes, White House spokesman Bill Burton publicly reiterated the president\u2019s belief that \u201cindividuals who have paid for their crimes should have an opportunity to contribute to society again.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>July 2009: After black Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct after being misidentified as attempting to break into his own home and calling arresting officer Sgt. Joseph Crowley a \u201cracist cop,\u201d Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/story?id=8148986&amp;page=1#.UW1UU4JAvA1\">said<\/a> that despite \u201cnot having been there and not seeing all the facts,\u201d it was \u201cfair to say\u201d that \u201cCambridge police acted stupidly,\u201d and he suggested Gates may have been a victim of racism. If the president had waited for the facts, he would have known that Crowley had been joined by a Hispanic officer and a black sergeant, and that Crowley had an <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2009\/07\/23\/nuance-cop-who-arrested-gates-is-an-expert-on-racial-profiling\/\">exemplary record<\/a> on race. Further, Obama did more than \u201ctake a position\u201d; he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2009\/07\/30\/beer-summit-begins-obama-_n_248254.html\">invited<\/a> Crowley and Gates to a &#8220;beer summit&#8221; predicated on the insulting theory that the minor incident held some deeper race lesson the country needed to learn.<\/li>\n<li>May 2009: Obama wasted no time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the_press_office\/Statement-From-The-President-On-The-Murder-Of-DR-George-Tiller\/\">expressing<\/a> his \u201cshock and outrage\u201d at the murder of partial-birth abortionist George Tiller on the day it happened, lecturing America that \u201chowever profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.\u201d (By contrast, it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/article\/white-house-statement-released-on-little-rock-recruiting-center-shooting\">took<\/a> the commander-in-chief two days to acknowledge the shooting of two soldiers at a recruitment center in Little Rock, Arkansas.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The president&#8217;s reactions vary in accuracy and appropriateness, but they all prove that he won\u2019t hesitate to opine on local matters and open crimes when he feels like it. When a case serves his views, there&#8217;s no end to the &#8220;teachable moments&#8221; or causes for &#8220;meaningful action.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Gosnell trial makes the White House squirm because Obama <a href=\"\/news\/presidential-silence-on-gosnell-actions-inconsistent-but-unsurprising\/\">is the infanticide president<\/a>. When a more sanitary version of Gosnell\u2019s crimes was being committed in Illinois hospitals, Obama refused to do anything about it &#8211; partly because a hypothetical threat to <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> bothered him more than newborns starving to death, and partly because, as Henry noted, that the very suggestion that any doctor would be capable of such a thing was an intolerable insult against their honor.<\/p>\n<p>Honor. Sure would be nice to see some in the White House.
