It\u2019s a profound gift, but one that many of us try to manage, fix, control \u2014 especially when things don\u2019t go as expected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"1183\">She explained that as a board-certified OB\/GYN and reproductive endocrinologist, she spent years helping women through IVF. But over time, she began to question the very foundations of the practice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"1183\">\u201cI believed, like so many well-intentioned people, that whatever helped a couple conceive had to be good\u2026 but I was wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"1183\">&#8220;Children are not products&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1472\">Rubal described the IVF process in detail \u2014 from stimulating egg production to creating embryos in a lab \u2014 and reflected on the fact that she once held two contradictory beliefs. \u201cAs a medical student, I knew life begins at fertilization\u2026 but as a fertility specialist, I acted as if life began at implantation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1833\">Over time, she came to realize this &#8220;blind spot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1833\">\u201cThe very embryos that I was helping create, sustain, freeze, and sometimes discard were human lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1833\">Finally, she reached an awakening.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1833\">\u201cIt dawned on me. We are playing God with life itself,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Children are not products\u2014they are persons. We cannot commodify them or pretend we have the right to create them on demand just because the desire is good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2199\">She presented statistics that should give pause to those considering IVF.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2199\">\u201cOnly 37% of IVF cycles result in live birth. Millions of embryos are being frozen, discarded, or destroyed,&#8221; she said. She also cited emerging trends in embryo selection based on sex and genetics, and warned of medical risks including stillbirth, sepsis, and birth defects.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2199\">Restorative Reproductive Medicine<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2348\">Rubal offered an alternative to those who may be tempted to resort to IVF: Restorative Reproductive Medicine (RRM).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2350\" data-end=\"2680\">\u201cRestorative reproductive medicine is built on a simple principle: if something in the body isn\u2019t working, identify the root cause and restore normal function.\u201d She explained that RRM doesn\u2019t suppress or override natural fertility but cooperates with it, treating infertility as a chronic condition rather than a one-time failure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2682\" data-end=\"2979\">RRM works in three phases: identifying the underlying issue through hormone tracking and cycle observation; treating the root causes with targeted approaches including nutrition, medication, and sometimes surgery; and finally, allowing conception to occur naturally or with minimal assistance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2981\" data-end=\"3108\">\u201cStudies show that RRM has live birth rates that rival IVF\u2014with far fewer risks and at a fraction of the cost,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3110\" data-end=\"3214\">She also gave practical advice to women wanting to improve their fertility. Among her recommendations:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3215\" data-end=\"3725\">\n<li data-start=\"3215\" data-end=\"3264\">\n<p data-start=\"3217\" data-end=\"3264\">\u201cStart with your food. You are what you eat.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3265\" data-end=\"3324\">\n<p data-start=\"3267\" data-end=\"3324\">\u201cHeal your gut\u201470% of our immune system resides there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3325\" data-end=\"3411\">\n<p data-start=\"3327\" data-end=\"3411\">\u201cSupport your detoxification: sweat, hydrate, and ensure regular bowel movements.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3412\" data-end=\"3475\">\n<p data-start=\"3414\" data-end=\"3475\">\u201cKnow your numbers\u2014get your hormones and nutrients tested.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3476\" data-end=\"3547\">\n<p data-start=\"3478\" data-end=\"3547\">\u201cLearn about your body\u2014fertility awareness methods are empowering.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3548\" data-end=\"3623\">\n<p data-start=\"3550\" data-end=\"3623\">\u201cRestore, don\u2019t override. Infertility is a symptom, not your identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3624\" data-end=\"3725\">\n<p data-start=\"3626\" data-end=\"3725\">\u201cGive yourself grace.
