They also receive statutory parental bereavement pay, which is either \u00a3187.18 or 90% of average weekly earnings, as long as they have been working for their employer for at least 26 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/boy-meets-world-star-heartbreaking-miscarriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>\u2018Boy Meets World\u2019 star Trina McGee announces heartbreaking miscarriage<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The change comes in part thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanresourcesonline.net\/uk-amends-employment-rights-bill-to-cover-pregnancy-loss-under-bereavement-leave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocacy<\/a> of Sarah Owen, MP and Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From my personal experience of miscarriage to the powerful testimony the Women &amp; Equalities Select Committee heard, I know the difference that bereavement leave will make,&#8221; she said, adding:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>It is a bold and necessary move from this Government to see the UK become one of only a handful of countries in the world to recognise pregnancy loss as a bereavement and give workers the right to take time off to grieve.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em> Nothing will ever take away the pain of losing a pregnancy, but this law change will provide workers with the security of time to grieve and help end the stigma of miscarriage for good.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite her comments on pregnancy loss, Owen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politics.co.uk\/news\/2025\/06\/17\/how-every-mp-voted-on-abortion-decriminalisation\/\">voted to support<\/a> an <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-to-birth-amendments-uk-problems\/\">amendment<\/a> to the Crime and Policing Bill to decriminalize all self-administered abortions in the UK \u2014 effectively allowing abortion to birth through use of abortion drugs.
